Chapter 80 of Boruto’s manga opened the pandora’s box when Kawaki and Eida made the wish to turn Boruto into the villain in the eyes of the Konoha village members.
This and the misinformation about Naruto and Hinata’s death at the hands of Boruto sent Sarada down a spiral which led Sarada Mangekyou Sharingan to be unlocked.
Many debated over her way of achieving the legendary power was not up to the mark of her predecessors to whom I have this to say.

Before we start off with the Sarada Mangekyou Sharingan abilities and powers, we must understand the basic of how Mangekyou Sharingan abilities are awakened by the user and why each user awakens different Mangekyou Sharingan abilities.
How Are Mangekyou Sharingan Abilities Awakened By Uchiha Clan Members & Why Each Mangekyou Sharingan Ability Is Different?
As we all know that Uchiha clan members experience love more deeply than others. This leads to their eye chakra manifesting into the Sharingan and the loss of that love causes the Sharingan to evolve into Mangekyou Sharingan.
However, all the abilities of the basic sharingan are the same for all users who achieve it whereas the mangekyou sharingan abilities are different. Ever thought why is that?
Fret not, I’ll help you understand. We know that every Uchiha to achieve Mangekyou Sharingan went through mental trauma and thus they wished that trauma never happened or something else happened instead of this trauma.
This led to them desiring ways to change their reality to some extent which led to the formation of various mangekyou abilities.
You read that right, the abilities of Mangekyou Sharingan manifest depending on the user’s state of mind. Hence each Mangekyou Sharingan is unique and contains different abilities.
Let’s look at the various abilities of Mangekyou Sharingan manifested by the most powerful Uchiha clan members. Enabling us to understand the variation in abilities and gain more insight into how their desires were the ones that unlocked these abilities.
Let’s take the example of Obito & Shisui to understand this concept. There are more examples to take from like Itachi and Sasuke but I will be using only these two for the sake of this article and explaining them to you.
What Is Obito Uchiha’s Mangekyou Sharingan Ability?
When Obito unlocked his Mangekyou Sharingan he saw Rin dying at the hands of his best friend. In that situation, he lacked the speed to stop that from happening.
Hence, his deepest desire led him to curse himself for the lack of his speed, for if he was fast he would have been able to save her. This led to his Mangekyou manifesting a space-time ninjutsu ability in which he can teleport himself and others from one place to the other without any distance limitations.
Secondly, he feels that there’s nothing worth living in this world where she’s not alive. This led his mangekyou to manifest the ability to create a new dimension which is dark with nothing in that dimension. Similar to the world he wanted, a place where there’s nothing without her.
Thus his desires at the moment of unlocking his Mangekyou Sharingan gave birth to his Mangekyou Sharingan abilities.

What Is Shisui Uchiha’s Mangekyou Sharingan Ability?
When Shisui unlocked his Mangekyou Sharingan he deeply desired to change the hearts of everyone in the Uchiha clan to stop the coup.
This led to him manifesting a genjutsu-based ability and since his desire to change people was so strong that his Mangekyou ability is to date the strongest genjutsu.
His Kotoamatsukami was a genjutsu of such a high degree that it could overwrite powerful jutsus such as Edo Tensei.
It could put anyone into a genjutsu that was impossible to break and would enforce absolute obedience without direct eye contact. His Mangekyou Sharingan is also programmable to work on certain individuals or patterns.
However, there was a drawback since Shisui only wanted to change the heart of his clansmen only once, his Mangekyou Sharingan had a cooldown period of 10 years.
Without this cooldown period, Shisui could have become the Lelouch of Naruto world without any drawbacks from Lelouchs’ Geass.
Other Common Mangekyou Sharingan Abilities:
There were other characters who manifested the powers of Mangekyou Sharingan such as Ashura Ohtsutsuki, Madara Uchiha, Izuna Uchiha and Fugaku Uchiha along with the others mentioned above.
And all mangekyou sharingan users manifest the ability to summon a Susanoo. The Susanoo is the name of the God of Storm and Sea in Japanese mythology. The Uchiha clan’s symbol Uchiwa fan is a great shout-out to this little detail as fans are used to well, create a wind effect.
Although we could witness the Susanoo of only a handful of Uchiha.
So Sarada would also be able to summon a Susanoo as part of her Mangekyou Sharingan ability.
A point to note is that although all Susanoo possess the same powers as the users each Mangekyou eyes’ abilities in different forms such as Kakashi could use Kamui Shuriken etc and more minor details like the colour of the Susanoo and size varied depending on the users’ nature and chakra levels.
However, none of the above Susanoo manifested the ability to come with the Totsuka Blade and Yata Mirror which Itachi’s Susanoo could do.
Keep this point in mind.
So after understanding how Mangekyou Sharingan’s abilities and powers are unlocked let’s now jump to Sarada Mangekyou Sharingan Abilities and powers and what they could be.
What Are Sarada’s Mangekyou Sharingan Abilities and Powers In Boruto: Naruto Next Generation?
After thoroughly understanding the basics of how Mangekyou Sharingan’s abilities manifest we can now get ready with our main topic at hand.

Now, there are several possible theories for Sarada’s Mangekyou Sharingan since Sarada was going through a huge turmoil in her brain. So we have to first think of her mindset at the moment when Sarada’s Mangekyou Sharingan was unlocked.
Theory 1: Reality Warping Powers
During and after the entire event of Eida changing reality using her Omnipotence, Sarada and Sumire were the only two non-ohtsutsuki characters who were unaffected by it.
Sarada’s mind was broken into pieces when she learnt that Boruto was framed as the killer of Naruto and that the entirety of Konoha was searching for Boruto to kill him.
The loss of the person she admired the most and the potential death of her love interest at the ends of her own father and childhood friends caused serious mental trauma to Sarada.
These incidents hurt her so deeply that she let go of her pride and begged Sasuke to grant mercy to Boruto and save him. If you are a proud individual you would know how hard it is to ask for a favour from someone.
Sarada shredded all ounces of her humility and begged Sasuke. This may seem like a trivial reason for most fans out there but look at the peaceful countries and you’ll realise how much mentally weak their current generation is.
The same logic applies to Sarada since she was born during peaceful times and even a little bit of trauma is enough to cause her a great amount of stress.
And in this moment all she wanted to do is to change the world around her and save Boruto so her powers could be of reality warping. Where she can change the real world to a certain extent up to a limited distance.
The main reason behind this theory is that since Sarada is one of the two who cannot be affected by Eidas’ omnipotence and being an Uchiha by blood with potential Ohtsutsuki chakra she can be the perfect counter to the female villainess.
So Sarada having a power which can change whatever Eida changed would be amazing. Her challenge will be to counter the scale at which Eida’s powers work.
Also, Sarada Mangekyou Sharingan’s pattern is that of a Sun which could be a shoutout to the Japanese Sun-Goddess Amaterasu, who is the ruler of the heavens. So warping reality for her is no big challenge since she practically controls everything.
Other than that thanks to her Sun design, the number of choku-tomoes in Sarada’s Mangekyou Sharingan is the highest (i.e. 8) which is ever been seen.
So her Mangekyou Sharingan will by default be the strongest ever, as it was stated by Madara himself that the more the number of choku-tomoes the stronger the Mangekyou Sharingan.
So this also gives a hint that Sarada’s mangekyou sharingan will possess an extremely haxed ability like reality warping.
Moving on to the next potential ability:
Theory 2: Time-altering Powers
As it is known, Sarada has a sun pattern Mangekyou Sharingan, which is a shoutout to Amaterasu the Sun-Goddess in Japanese mythology. Also, it is well known that Masashi Kishimoto is famous for changing mythology a bit and using it in the plot.
Like the times when he made Ashura which is the term used for demons in Hindu mythology for the good guy and Indra which is literally the title of the leader of Gods in Hindu mythology for the evil guy.
Similarly, Kishimoto-sensei gave Sarada the design of the Sun but might give her the Moon abilities. Basically, what I mean is, the moon has been always associated with a mysterious vibe and time travel in the East as well as the West.
So this led me to think that she could have time-altering powers. Especially since Eida’s abilities stop working on any event that happened before her birth. So using time travel as power for Sarada Masashi Kishimoto can link the OG Naruto series points to explain a few pointers like the person standing during the battle against Kaguya in the manga.
Also, Kishimoto can use it to explain the past and history of the earth in the Naruto universe and of Shibai Ohtsutsuki.
It can also explain how Amado got his hands on Jiraiya’s DNA etc.
Thus, these powers could be an amazing way to do so.
Theory 3: Genjutsu on par with Kotoamatsukami.
Desiring to change the outcome of the world has always led to the Uchiha clan unlocking intensely powerful genjutsu-based abilities or inter-dimensional abilities through their Mangekyou Sharingan.
It is already seen with Itachi, Shisui and Obito. However, Sarada, a descendant of Itachis’ bloodline, could inherit inherently strong genjutsu abilities.
Plus her sun pattern with 8 choku-tomoe could outright make it the strongest genjutsu in existence.
Another reason for this is that the moment Sasuke saw into Sarada’s Mangekyou Sharingan, I think that Sarada was unknowingly using her powers which led to Sasuke obeying her.
It is not the first time we will be seeing a person using their Mangekyou Sharingan abilities without realizing it as we saw Obito massacre the entire battalion of Kirigakure.
If Sarada Mangekyou Sharingan is a genjutsu type then she can overturn the effects of Eida’s omnipotence and that’s a huge deal.
Theory 4: Jutsu Negation Powers
This one is quite interesting and it has to deal with incidents in Nihon Shoki, Amaterasu the Sun Goddess, Itachi and his Yata Mirror and the Totsuka blade.
Now in the Naruto series, Susanoo with Yata Mirror, & Totsuka Blade were first introduced on Itachi similar to the Nihon Shoki i.e. Japanese Mythology which he used to cut the 8-headed serpent.
Now Sarada with her Sun Pattern Mangekyou Sharingan has emerged and in Japanese mythology, Amaterasu is the Sun Goddess.
And the Goddess Amaterasu received the Totsuka Blade and the Yata Mirror from her brother Susanoo as a gift, so Sarada could inherit the Yata Mirror and Totsuka Blade just like the real Amaterasu Goddess from her brother Susanoo. Not directly of course but as mentioned above Itachi’s Susanoo is the only Susanoo with Totsuka Blade and Yata Mirror and he and Sarada are related by blood.
So there is a high possibility that Sarada might inherit the Yata Mirror and the Totsuka Blade.
The blade of Totsuka has the ability to cut anything and anyone of materialistic and spiritual origins and traps them in an eternal genjutsu.
Whereas the Yata mirror can reflect anything and everything thrown at it.
Sounds like a perfect counter for someone like Daemon and Eida whose powers are absurdly haxed.
Theory 5: Omniscience
Sarada Mangekyou Sharingan has 8 choku-tomoes as mentioned above and in Japanese mythology, the number 8 is believed to be extremely lucky and is also used to describe infinity.
Let me explain, in Japanese mythology, there exists a term called “Yaoyorozu no Kami“, which directly translates to Eight million Gods, however, it is mainly used to refer to infinite Gods.
Since the term was made during the time when the concept of infinity in Japan didn’t exist. Since then the number 8 is associated with infinity in Japanese mythology. Also, time and everything in Japanese and Hindu mythology are cyclical in nature.
Coming back to Sarada’s Mangekyou Sharingan design pattern it looks like a sun basically a circle with 8 triangles around it. A circle is also used to represent infinity as it has no start or end. And there is only one thing that is considered truly infinite in all mythologies from East to West is either God or KNOWLEDGE!
Some cultures also believe that Knowledge is God.
So this could mean that Sarada’s Mangekyou Sharingan could very well represent her ability to access this infinite knowledge of the Narutoverse.
My main reason to think of this is that since we are dealing with abilities like Omnipotence then it is plausible to attain at least an omniscient state in the Narutoverse.
Also, the fact that she was unaffected by Eida’s powers could also be due to this reason and her potential to unlock such immense power.
The only drawback here is that we can’t explain how Sumire was able to resist Eida which can be a point of discussion.
Conclusion:
Sarada’s Mangekyou Sharingan could hold the ability to be one of the most powerful jutsu in the entire series. Since we are dwelling in the domain of Gods with the existence of Shibai who has achieved Godhood and Eida using just one of such powers of Shibai.
It can be easily said that now an amped-up Sarada with Ohtsutsuki blood through her father and a strong connection to chakra through her mother’s chakra control training on the planet which was nourished by the body of Shibai Ohtsutsuki it is possible that Sarada can unlock amazingly mindboggling powers through her Mangekyou Sharingan.

2.) Theory 3 is the Most likely. I don’t think that a dojutsu Like the sharingan is able to counter Shinjutsu. (Sharingan is probably a watered down Version of a Shinjutsu, since it’s Origin ist Otsutsuki, but a water down Version shouldn’t be able to counter Shinjutsu.) But Sasuke seems to believe His daughter, but also Said what He remembers to Boruto (that IT was Kawaki WHO Beat Momoshiki and ist now it’s Vessel etc)
since its also a sun -pattern sharingan, her susanoo will definitely be bright in color probably Yellow-Orange similar to her father figure whom she thought died – Naruto. (Since Naruto symbolizes the Sun)
✔️Her susanoo probably may not possess the totsuka blade but might have the Yata Mirror instead for defense which she can summon anytime on her susanoo and its primarly main form of offense is similar to her Fighting style maybe a susanoo that can smash mountains with its powerful fists. One strike of its fist can be felt from across the Naruto world and its power is like of a meteor crashing on earth.
✔️ theres a chance she has Reality Warping powers.(Advanced level Tsukuyomi but in reality temporarily) She might have the power to alter the composition of molecular structures of non-living materials or even elemental ninjutsu. (Ex: stone to water, metal to ice) and once she stops the justu, all materials transformed will revert to their original forms.
✔️She will inherit Amaterasu no doubt, but might come in a different color and new power. This time, she might not need to create it at will and she just needs to look at any target and it will completely melt or dissintegrate.
✔️Her Susanoo might also possess regenerative powers inside, so whomever she is with inside her Susanoo will heal overtime, much like Naruto while in his Kurama mode.
✓Correct, Madara even stated that the more tomoe the MS has, the more powerful it will be. Sarada has 8, so it maybe reasonable for her to obtain powers even greater than sasuke’s.
