In the latest Boruto chapter 80, Uchiha Sarada awakened her Mangekyou Sharingan and people have lost their minds.
People are biased about how Masashi Kishimoto handled Sarada’s Mangekyou Sharingan in the series. They are concerned about how he incorporated Sarada Mangekyou Sharingan into the series and the way she achieved it.
This bias has created a huge online dispute amongst the fans and created two groups believing two separate reasons as to how Sarada unlocked her Mangekyou Sharingan.
So without further adieu, let’s jump right into it!
How Does Sarada Get Mangekyou Sharingan?
Sarada’s Mangekyou Sharingan is a mystery due to the circumstances it was awakened in. Let’s first understand these circumstances in order to understand the psyche of the only living female Uchiha (by blood).
In Boruto chapter 79 and Boruto chapter 80 things go extremely haywire with Kawaki sealing Naruto and Hinata away and Eida siding with Kawaki to alter reality.
In this newly altered reality, Eida changes it in such a way that everyone believes that Kawaki is Naruto and Hinata’s son whereas Boruto is the outsider who was branded with Karma by Isshiki.
She also relays that Boruto killed Naruto and Hinata before fleeing and is planning to take over the world using his Ohtsutsuki powers (implied).
This causes Sasuke, Shikamaru and other bigwigs of Konoha along with budding leaves like Shikadai, Inojin, Chocho, Mitsuki and others to track Boruto and want to kill him.
However, only 2 people are unaffected by Eida’s powers one of them is Sumire Kakei the class representative and the other one is Sarada.
So from Sarada’s POV, she just learnt that Naruto, her Hokage and the person she admired the most, was killed. Furthermore, her beloved father, Sasuke Uchiha, the second-strongest person in the country and her childhood friend Mitsuki are trying to kill Boruto, the guy she has feelings for and who is also her childhood friend.
Not only these two, Sarada’s other childhood friends and the rest of the military might of the entire Konohagukure village i.e. the entire Fire country and in an extension the military might of the entire planet is after Boruto to kill him. So that they could avenge Naruto’s death.
Now amidst all this Sarada and Sumire are the only ones who know the real truth. All these events happening simultaneously caused a great amount of stress on Sarada.
In addition to this, she had to ask the first favour of her entire life to her father, Sasuke. People with even the tiniest shred of ego or self-respect will understand how much daunting asking a favour from someone else is.
This and the feeling of helplessness that she cannot do anything to save her friend and potential boyfriend except beg her father further increased her stress and made her spiral into despair.
It is this feeling of despair which is again a negative emotion caused Sarada to unlock her Mangekyou Sharingan.
Now many people will complain that even if Sarada achieved Mangekyou Sharingan due to despair. It feels very timid and stupid to unlock the legendary power for a meek emotion such as despair. Whereas, the previous users of Mangekyou Sharingan such as Itachi, Sasuke, Shisui, Izuna & of course, Madara had to kill their most loved person to unlock the mangekyou.
To them, I’ll say, agreed that they had to go through immense trauma to unlock Mangekyou Sharingan but please understand these guys were born during a time of conflict and continuous war.
They lost dear ones every other day so for them the level of immense pain varies compared to children like Sarada who were born during peacetime. If you ask a World War Vet about today’s kids they will say that kids these days are weaker mentally compared to kids and young men and women back then.
It’s the same thing. So if you think this despair of Sarada is weak compared to other legendary Uchiha having to kill their family or loved ones is meek? Then yes, but for Sarada it is a huge deal.
So Sarada Mangekyou Sharingan was unlocked in the same way the other Mangekyou were unlocked. There is no change in the condition to unlock Mangekyou Sharingan.
Is Sarada Mangekyou Sharingan An Overpowered Ability?
Understanding the basics of Mangekyou Sharingan is important. The Choku-Tomoe of Sharingan grants the user kinetic energy and the more these comma-resembling patterns are there in Mangekyou the stronger it is.
For example, The first known user of Choku-Tomoe MS is Madara Uchiha, I don’t have to emphasize Madara’s powers. If you are of those kinds who directly started Boruto without watching Naruto then just know this, just by using Madara’s name as an alias a literal nobody started a world war in Naruto. The name itself threw Kurama into a frenzy and made him want to kill Madara.
Coming back to Mangekyou, Madara had 3 choku-tomoe. whereas Sasuke had six in his Mangekyou Sharingan and Rinnegan.
That’s why Madara commended Sasuke over his eyes and wanted to take them for himself.
Now looking at Sarada Mangekyou Sharingan, she has 8 choku-tomoe which means Sarada’s Mangekyou Sharingan will have powers and abilities that are haxed than Sasuke’s Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan and Rinnegan.
It is yet to see what kind of powers she will possess although I personally believe that her powers will be related to altering reality or time travel or total control over someone else.
These will be abilities unique only to her like Sasuke had Kagatsuchi and Teleportation. (Speaking of unique abilities one must learn how to be unique when creating blog content as well instead of blatantly copying and spinning it. But if you cannot then you shall not resolve to stealing.) Just a tip I felt like giving.
Coming back to Sarada Mangekyou Sharingan, now that she has Mangekyou Sharingan, she might face issues like loss of sight due to over-usage. To avoid this, she must come up with a unique jutsu like the Byakugou seal or else we might lose Sasuke in the future!

i don’t think, she really realised, that she awakened it.
Also, the idea that Sarada who was born in peaceful times, needs less to cause the necessary trauma to awaken the mangekyou, than those who were used to seeing death and kill on a daily basis.
But on the other Hand: Sasuke, who was also born and raised during a time of relative peace. He came home and saw his whole familiy murdered by his beloved Brother itachi and was the even turtored by the reading Moon. And he didn’t awaken Sharingan nur Mangekyou.
(And i don’t linke the whole Omnipotence thing (For me: Cheap Plot-Device, because they couldn’t imagine how to get to the firts few panels of chapter 1). Some people in the village, who can use their brain, may sooner or later realize all the contradictions: Reports and other documents (Childhoodpictures, birth certificate, mission reports etc.) that clearly state, that Boruto is Naruto son and Kawaki is the outsider. I can imagine, that Amado will be one of the first to realize and confronts Kawaki and Shikamaru. to see if he is right, he tries the shut-down Command he thought, he build into Boruto on Kawaki and when it works, he and Shikamaru will know that something happened.)
I totally agree that she doesn’t realise that she has awakened it; honestly, I have another theory. When Sasuke saw the mangekyou and his daughter begging him, he had a change of heart, which is something that Kishimoto wants us to think. However, I think Sasuke’s change of heart is due to Sarada’s mangekyou powers which could completely control or alter reality to some extent and since she doesn’t realise that she has unlocked mangekyou, the power of her MS was the weakest at this moment.
Regarding Sasuke, we saw in the flashback scene that he awakened Sharingan when Itachi put him in Tsukuyomi that night however he never realised it and then later again unlocked it against Haku. So we can’t say that that particular trauma didn’t cause him to unlock anything related to Sharingan.
Regarding, Shikamaru and others realising this, we have to see whether Eida’s powers altered reality up to the last details. Or was it really Sarada’s powers that brought Sasuke out of the “omnipotence”.
Well…IT was Said, that eidas Power only affects memories and the Mind. But Not physical effidence Like Pictures or Reports.
And Sasuke told Boruto, that in His memory IT was Kawaki WHO helped defeating Momoshiki and ist now His Vessel. So He is still affected, but Trusts His daughter. And using Mangekyou Power without realizing would bei too convienent. Unlocking without noticing is anither story
The ability of omnipotence needs more explanation yes, but rn all I can think of is that Kawaki made a wish that people will see him in Boruto’s place that means even if people look at Boruto’s photos with anyone else they will see Kawaki there similar to like a genjutsu. Sasuke was affected yes that’s why my theory in the previous comment makes sense cuz Sarada really wanted to help Boruto and the moment she unlocked MS Sasuke came in her line of sight and was affected by the powers of her MS to some extent. It is the same logic as Obito unlocking his MS when he saw Rin-doughnut and in his fit of rage just caused a rampage. Even he hadn’t realised that he had awakened his MS. Neither did he have it before. He just went into the battlefield to fight, he was so angry that he didn’t care if anyone is striking him or not however his ability helped him in that moment so it is not the first time using MS ability without realising has happened in Naruto.
