Kaguya-Sama: Love Is War anime’s new TV special ended with an announcement of a new movie. The movie will be unrelated to the manga and will be a completely new story written by Aka Akasaka, the original author of the manga. However, the movie will also serve as a conclusion to the manga and the anime.

Additionally, Aka Akasaka also gave an official comment talking about the movie. Check the translation below:

“Kaguya-sama was created with many people, and it was a work that allowed me to realise the joy of creating things with other people. Everyone on the animation team and I had always wanted to create a completely new work that we’d all created together, something that no one had ever seen before, rather than just making it into an anime, and when we talked about it, the people on the production team said, ‘Let’s do it.’ That was about four years ago.“
He continued, “Ever since then, I’ve been thinking about what kind of story would be good. What kind of unnecessary additions could I add to this story that had once been closed? It was a time that was both incredibly scary and fun. Then one day, an idea came to mind. At that moment, I knew this was it.”
He also said, “At the same time, I thought, wow, this must be tough for the animation team. I’m sure everyone is scratching their heads, thinking that they’ve been working on Kaguya-sama: Love is War for about eight years, and now they’re being asked to take on this challenge, but it’s probably the last, so I believe they’ll forgive me if I make a slightly unreasonable request. I have that much trust in this team. It’s new, but nostalgic. I hope to deliver a completely new, and surely the very last, Kaguya-sama.“
Aoi Koga, the voice actress of Kaguya Shinomiya and also the singer of the ending theme for the anime “Kaguya-sama: Love is War – Stairs to Adulthood also commented, saying, “I’m so grateful to have been involved in the ending theme after the opening…! I thought carefully about what it meant for Kaguya to sing here and worked on it. When I first heard the song, I was impressed by the gentle, enveloping melody, and I wondered what it would be like for Kaguya to sing it.”

She continued, “When they explained the purpose of the song, they said they wanted to show a slightly different Kaguya than before, so I sang it with the feeling of turning the pages of an album, reminiscing on memories, keeping in mind the ‘adult’ aspect. I hope you’ll listen to it a lot and reminisce about your memories of Kaguya-sama with me. Thank you.”
The first season of the TV anime, produced by A-1 Pictures, aired in 2019. It was followed by a second season in 2020 and an OVA episode in 2021. The third season premiered in 2022. An anime film, titled The First Kiss That Never Ends, premiered in theatres in December 2022.
Originally written and illustrated by Aka Akasaka, Kaguya-sama: Love Is War began serialisation in Miracle Jump in 2015 before moving to Weekly Young Jump, where it ran until November 2022.
The manga concluded with the 28th volume and has been published in English by Viz Media.
