The long-awaited “ANOHANA 10 YEARS AFTER Fes.” event held on Saturday, August 28 as the focus of the Anohana 10 years anniversary, revealed the fate of the Super Peace Busters’ Lives 10 Years Later featuring the voice casts in person at the anime’s real-life setting of Chichibu in Saitama.

Original scriptwriter Mari Okada wrote the script, while director Tatsuyuki Nagai drew the storyboards and character designer Masayoshi Tanaka drew the illustrations. The event streamed for two days on 28th August (Saturday) and 29th August (Sunday).

The Stage-reading revealed the occupations of the Super Peace Busters and their current relationship statuses while affirming the themes of the anime.

It all began from the fateful “hide and seek” moment in the anime’s final episode continuing to Menma writing the messages to her friends, as she wonders what they’ll be doing 10 years into the future.

Tsuruko is revealed to have become a web designer, while Anaru has become a dental hygienist. Poppo started an important business, and Jintan works with him.

As for their relationship status, the reading focuses on a discussion between Tsuruko and Anaru with the men in their lives. Tsuruko says that she and Yukiatsu didn’t find “the right timing” to get married, so their relationship is still vague. Anaru and Jintan are not in a relationship, but she still has strong feelings for him. Meanwhile, Poppo married a foreign woman named Stephanie and had two children.

An important development in the story brings the Super Peace Busters’ together for a reunion, where the scene emphasizes that the characters are all adults now by showing them drinking alcohol.

As the story moves forward, a matured Jintan convinces his friends to move on further keeping things the exact same as they were when they were children so much as keeping the spirit of what they had even as adults. He affirms that the most important thing is keeping their promise to Menma.

Nearing the end, Jintan reveals that he wants to marry Anaru, however, she freaks out after hearing that but agrees to the proposal, though she was expecting them to date first. The others take this as confirmation that Jintan and Anaru are now together.

The scene closes with the Super Peace Busters drinking to Menma’s memory. Menma looks over all this and is assured in the knowledge that the Super Peace Busters will get along forever. The reading play concludes as she utters those words of certainty:

“I know. I know…”

The first part of the “ANOHANA 10 YEARS AFTER Fes” took place in the Prince Chichibu Memorial Civic Hall, featuring voice actors Miyu Irino (Jinta “Jintan” Yadomi), Ai Kayano (Meiko “Menma” Honma), Haruka Tomatsu (Naruko “Anaru” Anjō), Takahiro Sakurai (Atsumu “Yukiatsu” Matsuyuki), Saori Hayami (Chiriko “Tsuruko” Tsurumi), and Takayuki Kondō (Tetsudō “Poppo” Hisakawa). The second part took place at the parking lot in front of the Chichibu City Hall, and will feature Kayano, Tomatsu, and Hayami.

The television anime anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day premiered in April 2011 and follows childhood friends who try to reconnect in high school, after drifting apart due to tragedy five years earlier. The series inspired a manga, 2013 film sequel, and 2015 live-action special.
