GEM partners, a data collection company, collected data from 7000 Japanese audience aged between 16-69 to analyze the most popular show streamed across Japan including non-anime shows. The analysis resulted in SPY X FAMILY as the clear winner for the month of May 2022.
The streaming platforms analyzed included Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, U-NEXT, Hulu Japan, Disney+, Docomo anime store, dTV, ABEMA Premium and Paravi.
The top 10 series on these platforms include:

SPY X FAMILY was able to overtake Detective Conan despite the latter’s movie still being in theatres.
A new anime Ya Boy Kongming! has jumped into the top 10 list as well. The series overtook global fan favorites like Demon Slayer and Attack on Titan. It jumped from 12th position to 5th position displaying how popular concept of historical figures in 21st Century Shibuya is.
Spy × Family is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Tatsuya Endo. It has been serialized biweekly on Shueisha’s Shōnen Jump+ application and website since March 2019, with the chapters collected in nine tankōbon volumes as of April 2022.
The manga has exceeded over 350 million reads on the Shonen Jump+ digital platform and over 17 million copies of the collected volumes were printed (physically) and sold (digitally) in Japan.
Viz Media has licensed the series for English release in North America.
