A new anime project based on Masamune Shirow’s The Ghost in the Shell manga has entered production, with Science Saru returning to handle animation.

Bandai Namco Filmworks announced the project on Oct. 23 under the tentative working title The Ghost in the Shell (Working Title).

The new project follows the first season of The Ghost in the Shell which concluded its broadcast run earlier this fall.

The announcement was surprisingly revealed through flyers distributed to attendees during a press preview for the Open House at Dover Street Market Ginza in Tokyo, public store event which brings together brands and artist.

The preview coincided with The Ghost in the Shell‘s apparel collaboration launch with Japanese streetwear brand Geeks Rule, which included an autograph signing session with Mokochan, the director of the summer 2026 anime series.

A teaser visual was also released to commemorate the new The Ghost in the Shell anime project.

Specific production details, including the anime’s format, storyline, and premiere window have not yet been announced. Updates regarding the same will be shared sequentially through Bandai Namco Filmworks’ official channels.

The anime adaptation which aired this year covers the entirety of Shirow’s original The Ghost in the Shell manga’s 11 chapters which was serialized in 1990 and collected into a single tankobon volume.

The manga, however, has sequel works titled Ghost in the Shell 1.5: Human-Error Processor and Ghost in the Shell 2: Man-Machine Interface, which the new project might be adapting.

Amazon Prime Video streamed the 2026 anime worldwide across more than 240 countries and territories alongside the Japanese television broadcast.

The franchise previously received animated adaptations from Production I.G, including Mamoru Oshii’s 1995 classic feature film Ghost in the Shell, the 2004 sequel Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, the television series Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, and the 3DCG series Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045.
