Gege Akutami, the creator of Jujutsu Kaisen, is returning to Weekly Shonen Jump with a brand-new project. Akutami will team up with artist Yuji Iwasaki on a short-term manga.
Iwasaki is best known for illustrating Nisio Isin’s Cypher Academy, which ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2022 to 2023.
The manga is titled Mimojuro and will debut in Issue #41 of the magazine on Sep 8, 2025.
Shueisha confirmed that Akutami will write the story while Iwasaki will provide the artwork. The project marks Akutami’s first return to Weekly Shonen Jump following the conclusion of Jujutsu Kaisen earlier this year.
The end of Jujutsu Kaisen drew mixed reactions, with some readers feeling the story wrapped up too abruptly and left certain plot points unresolved.
Akutami later addressed the circumstances behind the finale, revealing that his health had sharply declined in the final stages of serialization. He credited One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda with guiding him to a hospital where he was able to recover, noting that Oda’s support came at a crucial time.
