Detective Conan manga Chapter 1167 has been released in the latest issue of Weekly Shonen Sunday after the series went on a two-month hiatus.
The chapter, which appears in the combined 42nd and 43rd issue of Weekly Shonen Sunday released Sep 16, also marks the beginning of a new arc.
The official Detective Conan X account announced the manga’s return ahead of the issue’s release, teasing the new arc and Ran’s predicament.
“A new arc begins! It looks like Ran is late for her meeting with Sonoko! In a hurry, Ran seems to have tried to get a better view of the area from the top of a nearby building…!? Check out Issue 42/43 for the details!,” the post revealed.
Detective Conan, created by Gosho Aoyama, began serialization in Weekly Shonen Sunday in 1994 and surpassed 1,000 chapters in 2017, becoming the longest-running regularly serialized manga in the magazine’s history.
As of April 2026, its chapters have been collected in 108 tankobon volumes.
The manga’s long serialization has also been interrupted by frequent hiatuses, slowing the progression of its overarching story. Aoyama recently revealed in an interview that he has already completed the storyboard for the manga’s final chapter.
Meanwhile, the franchise’s anime adaptation began in 1996, followed by its first theatrical film in 1997. A total of 29 films have been released since then, with each featuring an original story rather than adapting material from Aoyama’s manga. The latest film, Detective Conan: Fallen Angel of the Highway, premiered in Japan on April 10, 2026.
The anime is currently celebrating its 30th anniversary. As part of the celebrations, a two-hour original anime special, The Counterfeit Case of Ultra 30, is scheduled to premiere on Sep 25.
