Overlord: New World Manga Chapter 24 Release Delayed Following Artist Matsuki’s Hospitalization

Ainz Ooal Gown Overlord

The release of Overlord: New World (Overlord [Shin] Sekai-hen) manga’s chapter 24 has been postponed indefinitely following series illustrator Matsuki’s sudden hospitalization.

The artist announced the delay on Oct. 7, 2026, through their official X account, revealing that they have been admitted to a hospital for medical treatment and will require an extended recovery period.

“I will be hospitalized, and because I will need some time afterward for treatment and rest, the manga will be going on hiatus for a while,” Matsuki wrote.

Kadokawa also published an official hiatus notice on the same day through its digital manga platform KadoComi, with the delay directly impacting the release following Chapter 23-3, which was published on Sept. 23, 2026.

While there is no information on when Chapter 24 will release, Matsuki confirmed that production will resume once their recovery concludes.

“At this time, the date of the series’ return has not been decided, but we will make another announcement once the resumption has been determined,” the artist added.

Matsuki noted intentions to use the treatment and rest period to recuperate fully and prepare production materials so the serialization can resume at a high visual standard.

Overlord: New World Manga Is Apating The Holy Kingdom Arc

The delay comes just as the manga started adapting the light novel’s Holy Kingdom Arc, which served as the basis for the franchise’s lataest feature film.

“It is truly painful and frustrating to have to take a break right at this moment when the Holy Kingdom Arc has just begun. However, I will definitely resume serialization, so I would be deeply grateful if you could wait a little longer,” Matsuki wrote in their message.

Overlord: New World acts as a sequel to the original manga adaptation, continuing from Light Novel Volume 10 following Ainz Ooal Gown’s victory at the Battle of the Katze Plains and the formal establishment of the Sorcerer Kingdom.

Overlord Holy Kingdom Arc Anime Movie

Overlord: New World is serialized digitally on KadoComi under the Comp Ace Comic Connect banner and in print in Kadokawa’s Monthly Comp Ace magazine, where it debuted in April 2024. The manga fourth compiled book volume on March 26, 2026.

The manga is based on Kugane Maruyama’s original story and so-bin’s character designs, featuring scripts by Satoshi Oshio.

Matsuki took over art duties after the original manga illustrator, Hugin Miyama, departed the franchise in September 2023 following a nine-year run spanning 19 volumes.

Meanwhile, the Overlord light novel is currently approaching the end of its run. Maruyama’s original series launched online in 2010 before entering print publication under Kadokawa’s Enterbrain imprint in July 2012.

The series currently stands at 16 volumes, with the author planning to conclude the story with Volumes 17 and 18.

Studio Madhouse has adapted the light novel into an anime spanning four seasons between 2015 and 2022 under director Naoyuki Ito, followed by the theatrical movie Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom in late 2024.

The series follows Momonga, a salaryman who stays logged into the virtual reality game Yggdrasil as its servers shut down. He finds himself trapped inside his undead avatar while the game’s NPCs gain real consciousness, prompting him to conquer the surrounding world as the Sorcerer King Ainz Ooal Gown.
