Mayuri Kurotsuchi has been hated amongst the fandom for his treatment towards his assistant Nemu since their introduction. Despite Mayuri’s harassment, Nemu has always remained loyal to him and cares for him in her way.
This is evident from her battle against Pernida Parnkgjas while trying to save Mayuri. She disobeys direct orders from him and joins the battle knowing her abilities are not enough to win.
Despite the power gap, Nemu was able to deal significant damage to Pernida Parnkgjas helping Mayuri to ultimately come out as the victor. In the aftermath, Nemu was seen blown to pieces by Pernida with only her brain left intact.
However, at the end of Bleach TYBW, we see a young Nemu with Mayuri. So how was that possible? To understand that we must first learn about Nemu and her past.
Is Nemu Mayuri’s Daughter In Bleach?

Technically, Nemu is Mayuri’s daughter, a punching bag, an ever-going experiment, a bodyguard, an assistant captain, an assistant scientist, etc. Nemu is an artificial soul created by Mayuri based on the research initiated and conducted by Urahara Kisuke. Which Mayuri later perfected using his methods.
Nemu’s actual name is Nanago Nemuri. It loosely translates to the 7th Nemuri and is the 7th artificial soul created by Mayuri. The artificial souls numbered 1 to 6 didn’t survive for various reasons whereas number 7 was the only one that survived and showed signs of evolving as a soul. She is also the culmination of the efforts Mayuri took in creating her.
As a mad scientist, Mayuri always treated Nemu as an experiment and wanted to perfect it. That is why he never let her get in harm’s way as it will destroy his experiment. Hence his irrational behaviour towards her.
Nemu on the other hand, saw Mayuri as a guardian figure and always wanted to do what was best for Mayuri without disrespecting his commands. However, the moment she saw Mayuri’s life was in danger she jumped into the battle surprising even Mayuri.
How Did Nemu Kill Pernida Parnkgjas?

As mentioned earlier, Nemu is an artificial soul, her body is also enhanced by Mayuri to possess Superhuman strength. Although, unknown to Mayuri, Nemu developed two new techniques of her own. They are:
- Konpaku Sessaku (Soul Slicer), in this, Nemu cuts off portions of her soul and uses them to attack her opponent as a spiritual energy blast.
- Gikon Jūrinjū (Artificial Soul Heavy Circle Cannon), this technique allows Nemu to sacrifice her soul and fire a Spiritual energy ball which she fires at her target which blows a clean hole in the target by warping its body around itself.
Since Pernida constantly evolved these techniques provided enough time for Nemu to get Mayuri to safety and save his life. However, Pernida used his power, The Compulsory, directly on Nemu which resulted in her being splattered all over the battlefield.
Pernida to achieve the same technique as Nemu and also replenish his powers ate her remains although Mayuri didn’t allow him to consume her brain. This resulted in the left arm of God eating an artificial organ made specifically for Nemu.
This organ was made to counter the extremely high regenerative abilities of Nemu however without her brain, the organ ran amok and it made Pernida regenerate so much that his body could not withstand it and hence collapsed in itself. This resulted in the death of Pernida.
Is Nemu Dead in Bleach TBYW?

Despite being blown to bits, we see a child version of Nemu at the end of the war helping Mayuri in his daily tasks. So did Nemu really die? In short, yes, Nemu Nanago is dead. The child is Nemu Hachigo, which loosely translates to the 8th Nemu, an artificial soul just like Nemu Nanago recreated by Mayuri after the war. Nemu Hachigo looks similar to the 7th Nemu however it is unclear whether she carries the memories of her previous version.
Nemu Hachigo has a short stature and is extremely loud, unlike her 7th counterpart. Mayuri is seen behaving nicely towards her almost like a father figure.
