Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War cour 3 will incorporate more CGI than cour 2, according to the series’ new director, Hikaru Murata.
This announcement was made in a recent video posted by Viz Media on their official X account on July 6, 2024, featuring Murata, Chief Series Director Tomohisa Taguchi, and Producer Tominaga.
“As the new series director, I wish to maintain the animation quality established by everyone from [cour 2]. But if I am to address any changes, we are applying more CGI than cour 2,” Murata said. “So I’m hoping the fans can look forward to seeing the improved quality of the animation.”
Producer Tominaga added that fans can expect more epic visuals in the upcoming cour.
Murata, who has been a part of the Bleach TYBW staff since the beginning, takes the helm from Taguchi, who will now serve as the chief director and supervisor.
While fans are excited about the upcoming episodes, there are mixed reactions to the news of increased CGI and Murata’s new role.
While Murata’s promotion to director is seen as a natural progression given his experience, some fans are concerned about his ability to handle action scenes.
Others, however, are more hopeful, pointing out that CGI in Bleach TYBW has been used effectively in the past for both major and minor elements. Examples include the CGI used in Shinji and Rose’s Bankai, which was well-received by the audience.
They also highlighted that importance lies in how CGI is executed, pointing out that well-done CGI, such as that used for Yamamoto’s Bankai, could significantly enhance the viewing experience.
Bleach TYBW Cour 3, titled The Conflict, will be releasing in October 2024.
Six Lounge’s Without Any Words will be the opening song of the third cour, whereas Monochrome by Suisoh will be the ending song.
Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War cour 1 aired in Japan on Oct 10, 2022, and ended on Dec 26, 2022, with a one-hour long special episode, combining episodes 12 and 13 of the anime.
Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War cour 2 started airing on July 8, 2023.
It was previously revealed that anime will be split into four cours, with breaks in between.
