The plummeting number of Shinigami in the royal palace causes concern to the now Head-Captain, Shunsui Kyoraku. To protect his teammates, Shunsui comes up with a plan to detect and attack the Quincy sniper Lille Barro using one of the games made real by Katen Kyokatsu.
The battle between the two heavy hitters seems to be on an equal footing with Shunsui having the edge. However, the moment Lille Barro unleashes his vollständig the scales tilt towards him. To counter the immense power gap, Shunsui releases his Bankai, Katen Kyokatsu Karamatsu Shinju, engulfing almost all of the Royal Palace.
What Are The Powers And Abilities Of Shunsui’s Bankai?

Shunsui’s Shikai and Bankai can make children’s games and stories real. The shikai can make games real whereas the bankai can make games and stories real. There are 4 main stages to the Bankai. Each of them is more deadly and intricate than the previous one. Let us know what the steps are:
1. Tameraikizu no Wakachiai
The first stage of the Bankai is where the opponent shares all wounds which appear or are there on Shunsui. The catch here is if Shunsui attacks his opponent the wound inflicted by Shunsui would also appear on him. Hence, he doesn’t attack in this stage and just uses it to level the damage.
2. Zanki no Shitone
The second stage is where hundreds of wounds appear on the opponent which bleeds profusely. Shunsui compares this stage with the shame a person feels who has inflicted a wound on his opponent. This shame causes the attacker to be covered with hundreds of wounds which makes them fall to their knees.
3. Dangyo no Fuchi
The third stage where the entire field of the Bankai is filled with water similar to a deep ocean which constantly squeezes out reiatsu from the opponent and Shunsui, whoever runs out of it first is unalived. This stage is a perfect follow-up to the second stage as the opponent who is already more wounded than Shunsui will most likely be the only one who will die.
4. Itokiribasami Chisome no Nodobue
In the final stage of the Bankai, Shunsui sheaths his swords, entangles the throat of his opponent in a thread several times and then proceeds to blast off their head. This stage proceeds to give a final blow to the opponent ending the battle. This stage fits the complete narrative of Bankai’s story such as the first three stages of wounds reflecting, wound inflicting and drowning completely weaken the opponent’s reiatsu.
However, this is just one-half of the Bankai, as we all know dual-wielding Zanpakuto have two souls. In the fight against, Lille Barro until now, Shunsui has been seen talking to only one soul of the bankai whom he calls Ohana. She appears to be a beautiful young woman with a very arousing body wearing Japanese style dressing.
Whereas, the second soul is hidden and stashed away somewhere. The second soul named Kyokotsu, is a teenage female shinobi/ninja who loves playing games. She can make children’s games come to life. In his Shikai, Shunsui mainly uses Kyokotsu’s abilities and in Bankai, it is the elder woman’s abilities. This perfectly embodies that as a child we love to play childish games whereas as an adult our games take the form of hobbies like watching plays which is true in the case of Shunsui and his zanpakuto. It also reflects Shunsui’s flamboyant nature in general.
Shunsui’s Bankai Is A Stage Play Between Two Lover’s

As we all know Shunsui has a very flamboyant nature. As a young child, he always wanted to play and as a young man, he is always chasing cute girls and wants to go on dates with them. This is reflected in his Zanpakuto abilities as well. His shikai brings children’s games to life whereas his bankai is a lover’s quarrel.
The 4 stages or acts of his bankai completely denote the stages of approaching a woman who isn’t into you. In this case, the woman is Shunsui and the person approaching him is the opponent.
In the first stage, the opponent and Shunsui are brought to equal levels by reflecting any wound(pick-up line) on the opponent as if mimicking in a jestful way. Due to the dismissed pick-up line, the opponent feels extreme shame (wounds) and can feel it all over their body like a fever. This is the second stage.
In the third stage, the opponent is drowned in the feeling of guilt of approaching the woman and getting shamed which is slowly killing them from the inside like a poison. Noticing the opponent’s dilemma, the woman without any remorse just completely rejects their approach by blasting their head off. A feeling that many guys get when a girl rejects their offer in any setting. This becomes the fourth stage.
Since all of this is a play, everyone present within the range of the bankai either becomes an audience or an actor along with Shunsui in the play. Multiple opponents approaching Shunsui become actors by default and everyone else becomes the audience and has to abide by the rules made by Ohana and Kyokotsu.
The love relationship is also displayed between Shunsui and Ohana since she is angry at him as he rarely meets her. This is why Shunsui has to wait for Ohana to be in the mood to fight to release his Bankai and is also scared to use her as she’s a woman scorned in love. Thus making her extremely moody and impartial towards all except herself.
It also makes Shunsui one of the only few people who can go toe to toe with the Schutzstaffel and can defeat them alone. Thus making him the perfect candidate to overtake the role of Head Captain after Genryusai. I also believe that this is just one of the plays that Ohana can enact and that there are more plays stored in her purse. What do you think? Let us know in the comments,
