Digital Shokunin Inc. and publisher BookLive announced on Nov. 6, 2026, that manga creator Amahara’s fantasy adult comedy series 33-sai Dokushin Onna Kishi Taichou. (33 Years Old Single Female Knight-Captain.), is receiving an anime adaptation.
Produced to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the manga, which started serializing in 2015, the project was confirmed to the author roughly one week after joking about whether the series would ever get a 10th-anniversary anime in manga’s fourth volume.
Because the manga is serialized irregularly in short two-page chapters across episodic workplace comedy arcs, it took three full years to accumulate the 60 chapters required for the fourth compiled print volume, which Flex Comix published on Jan. 15, 2026.
While preparing the afterword manuscript for that fourth volume, Amahara drew a gag wondering aloud if the manga might receive an anime adaptation for its 10th anniversary.
Roughly one week after handing in that manuscript, the production team contacted him to report that an anime adaptation had officially been greenlit.
“I remember thinking, ‘It actually came.’ Now that it has been decided, I am looking forward to waiting for the day it is released,” Amahara said in a statement released along with the official announcement.
The latest announcement included the reveal of the official anime title logo and a main character design sheet depicting three female knights from the principal cast.
Digital Shokunin also released a pop-styled commemorative music video on the project’s newly launched official YouTube channel.
The video uses panels from the original manga and features the song Boogieing☆Dance Kishi. performed by Yukika.
Further details regarding the project, including the animation studio, director, voice cast, release schedule, and format have not been revealed yet.
Meanwhile, an official X account and YouTube channel were opened under the handle 33onakishianime.
The story of 33 Years Old Single Female Knight-Captain. follows Kiga Mail, the 33-year-old captain of the royal guard protecting the 12-year-old Princess Emera. Although Mail comes from high nobility and is respected as a skilled swordswoman and leader, she is an overworked corporate drone who remains an unmarried virgin with no romantic encounters.
Dealing with daily sexual frustration, Mail spends her limited free time complaining and trading lewd banter with her 30-year-old second-in-command, Hikae Mena, and her sleep-deprived fellow captain, Silvia
Amahara’s ecchi works have a history of testing broadcast standards, most notably during the Winter 2020 run of Interspecies Reviewers.
North American licensor Funimation removed the simulcast and dub of the anime adaptation after three episodes on Jan. 31, 2020, stating that the series fell outside company standards, and Amazon Prime Video and Wakanim Nordic also pulled the show.
In Japan, viewer complaints to the Broadcasting Ethics and Program Improvement Organization were followed by terrestrial networks Tokyo MX and Sun TV canceling future broadcasts in February 2020, with Tokyo MX replacing the timeslot with a program about cruise boats.
Additionally, Amahara’s 2021 MAPPA-produced dark fantasy anime The Idaten Deities Know Only Peace on Fuji TV’s Noitamina block also drew attention for extreme violence and adult themes.
