Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Earns Over US$14 Million In North American Box Office On First Weekend

It has earned a total of US$17.7 miliion till date.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 continued to build on its opening day collection in the North American box office as it grossed US$14.8 million in its first weekend, racking up an average of US$6,482 per-screen at 2,286 locations. This performance ensured that the movie will bag the second spot at the US box office this weekend (March 18-20) behind The Batman.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 had earned US$8.68 million in 2,340 theaters on its opening day Friday, March 18, 2022 in the United States. It went on to collect US$5.47 million on Saturday and US$3.5 million on Sunday earning a total of US$17.7 million domestically so far.

It fell short of Demon Slayer: Mugen Train‘s opening weekend collection, which was estimated to be around US$21.2 million back in April 2021.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 raked up US$2.88 million in preview screenings from 2,003 theatres at U.S. box office.

The movie released in North American theatres on March 18, 2022 in both dubbed and subbed versions. The movie is being distributed in the region by Crunchyroll.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is 21st highest-grossing film in Japan of all time earning a total of 12.7 billion yen (about US$107 million) in the country. It surpassed Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time to become the highest grossing film at the Japanese-box office that released in 2021.

It had crossed the 10 billion yen mark in Japanese box office in 43 days, earning about 10,456,322,400 yen (about US$90.6 million) from 7,603,732 tickets on its 45th day.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is based on Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School, the prequel manga to the main series, Jujutsu Kaisen. It is written and illustrated by Gege Akutami. The manga was serialized in Shueisha’s magazine Jump GIGA from April to July 2017.

After Akutami launched Jujutsu Kaisen in 2018, the series was retroactively retitled Jujutsu Kaisen 0—making it a prequel—and released in a single tankōbon volume in December 2018.
