Leaks circulating on social media claim that an anime adaptation of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 7: Steel Ball Run is currently in production.
First significant leaks came earlier this year in August, claiming that trademarks for the anime were registered in Japan as early as June 2022, with further registrations for a TV anime production filed in China in April 2024.
The latest round of leaks which came on Dec 12, 2024, suggest that the production phase for Steel Ball Run began in August 2024, with David Production, the studio behind previous JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure adaptations, reportedly handling the animation.
No release date or official confirmation has been announced, but speculation points to a potential release no earlier than 2026.
The timing of the leaks has led to speculation about their origin, with some saying that the information could stem from JOJO Magazine or related December content.
Expected official confirmation of the anime adaptation:
The anime franchise is set to have a presence at Jump Festa ’25, which will take place on Dec 21-22, 2024.
The event is expected to feature updates or announcements regarding the JoJo anime series, fueling further speculation about Steel Ball Run’s production status.
While unconfirmed, an official announcement for Steel Ball Run is also expected during the “JOJODAY” fan event scheduled for April 12, 2025.
Warner Bros. Japan announced earlier that JOJODAY will be held in Tokyo to “connect the past and future” of the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure anime.
Guests for the event include voice actors Kazuyuki Okitsu (Jonathan Joestar), Daisuke Ono (Jotaro Kujo), and Junichi Suwabe (Leone Abbacchio).
However, there are concerns in the fanbase about a Netflix batch release of the anime.
Steel Ball Run, the seventh part of Hirohiko Araki’s JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure manga, is set in an alternate timeline and follows Johnny Joestar and Gyro Zeppeli during a cross-country race across 1890s America.
The part is widely regarded as one of the most acclaimed arcs in the series for its unique setting and storytelling.
The sixth instalment of the anime adaptation, Stone Ocean, streamed on Netflix in three batches. It follows the story of Jolyne Cujoh, the daughter of Stardust Crusaders protagonist Jotaro Kujo. Sentenced to prison for 15 years for a crime she did not commit.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hirohiko Araki. It was originally serialized in Shueisha’s shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1987 to 2004, and was transferred to the monthly seinen manga magazine Ultra Jump in 2005.
The series is divided into nine story arcs, each following a new protagonist bearing the “JoJo” nickname. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is Shueisha’s largest ongoing manga series by volume count, with its chapters collected in 130 tankōbon volumes as of May 2021.
