Is Kenjaku Really Dead? Will He Come Back In JJK?

Yutu Kills Kenjaku

The chapters of Jujutsu Kaisen where Kenjaku fought Takaba seemed like an entirely different manga, thanks to the latter’s utterly weird cursed technique. Their fight was not your usual shonen fight.

It was hilarious, and to a certain extent, complete bonkers.

But then when it felt like Kenjaku had finally devised a plan to defeat Takaba, someone took him by surprise completely. Yes, it was Yuta Okkotsu, who had come to keep his promise in JJK chapter 243.

The last three pages of JJK 243 show Yuta Okkotsu jumping Kenjaku and doing something that the entire Jujutsu Kaisen fandom has been waiting for.

Kenjaku dead

Is Kenjaku really dead?

To answer in short, Kenjaku really seems to be dead. He was slain by Yuta in Lake Gosho colony and his corpse was consumed by Rika in order to copy his technique.

Kenjaku had taken a lot of measures to make sure that he will know if any of the big Jujutsu sorcerer, namely Yuta, Hakari or even Maki, made a move on him.

However, despite all the safety measures, Kenjaku was not able to detect Yuta’s large cursed energy presence. This was thanks to Takaba’s cursed technique.

He was so caught up in the illusion which Takaba had created that Yuta went unnoticed.

As he remarks in the final pages of chapter 243, Takaba probably did not want to get disturbed while he was having the time of his life with performing with Kenjaku. And this wish of Takaba’s manifested and masked Yuta’s presence.

He did try using the Anti-Gravity technique in order to stop Yuta, but that did not help.

We later come to know that Yuta was actually aided by Todo, who had returned to the battlefield by fine-tuning his Boogie Woogie cursed technique! This explains how Yuta’s position suddenly changed as Kenjaku turned back!

And in the end, Yuta succeeded in cutting off his head.

Will Kenjaku come back in JJK?

Kenjaku has cemented his reputation as a flamboyant schemer. With over 1000 years of experience in surviving difficult situations, it is hard to believe that killing him off would be this easy.

Not just that, because it was Kenjaku, I was pretty sure he might have had some sort of insurance up his sleeve. Maybe even a new body to possess thanks to his CT.

Despite Yuta decapitating Kenjaku, the fandom strongly believed that he will come back in some form. They refused to believe that he was dead.

However, as the heian era sorcerer himself noted while killing Hazenoki, it would be impossible for him now to apply reversed cursed technique under his neck now, which should have diminished his chances of healing the cut.

Even so, in chapter 249, we see that Kenjaku certainly didn’t immediately succumb to Yuta’s attack. He was still able to transfer the authority of being able to pull off the merger to Sukuna/Megumi. Weirdly, his head was being held up by a cursed spirit?

But then, transferring the authority of the merger turned out to be his last act. Immediately afterwards, we see Yuta sticking his katana into Kenjaku’s brain, effectively ending him.

Once again, Todo’s Boogie Woogie played a role here, as Yuta was immediately able to reach Kenjaku’s suspended head!

Yuta sticks his Katana into Kenjaku's brain effectively ending him!

This was further confirmed in JJK chapter 261, which revealed that Yuta had made Rika consume Kenjaku so that he could use his cursed technique.

So, we can say for sure that Kenjaku is dead and gone!! There is a very slim chance of him returning in JJK.

I won’t outright state anything because the cyclops cat can be a cruel author sometimes!!

Still, we can say that Yuta kept his promise. Gojo did not have to kill his best friend for a second time. It’s not like Gojo was alive to do the deed right now.

However, the guy himself says in the final panels that he was very close to victory (probably against Takaba) and that his will be inherited.

I am curious as to how that will happen at this point!!
