IG Port Reports Net Profit, Some Subsidiary Anime Studios Report Net Loss

IG Port, the parent company of animation studios Production I.G, Wit Studio, XEBEC, Signal.MD, and publisher Mag Garden, released its security report on May 31, 2021. The report provided a breakdown of the earnings of the individual companies.

Among its subsidiary companies, Production I.G (King of Deer, Moriarty The Patriot), the group’s core production company had the highest sales with 5.504 billion yen. The company also reported an ordinary income of 488 million yen and a net income of 459 million yen.

Wit Studio, and Signal.MD both reported losses. Wit Studio (Attack on Titan, Great Pretender) reported sales of 1.235 billion yen, an ordinary loss of 486 million yen, and a net loss of 501 million yen. Net assets have also followed a negative curve of 866 million yen.

Signal.MD (Cyborg 009 Call of Justice, Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop) reported sales of 1,522 million yen. Although ordinary income was 45 million yen and net income was 9 million yen, net assets were still negative at 239 million yen.

IG Port is already in excess debt related to Studio Wit and Signal MD as revealed in its earnings release briefing on July 9. For this reason, the company has established a subsidiary management project with the aim of improving its management system in the future.

Meanwhile, publishing arm Mag Garden (Monthly Comic Garden, Monthly Comic Avarus) is riding the wave has reported a profit, with sales of 2.133 billion yen, an ordinary income of 485 million yen, and net income was 310 million yen.

Other affiliates include Web Manga Management’s Lungua Franca Inc., LLC (Los Angeles, CA), etc., but they are not disclosed because they account for less than 10% of consolidated sales.

Additionally, there are several production committees with high investment ratios as affiliated companies. The investment ratio to the Great Pretender Production Committee was 55.5%, Fafner in the Azure: THE BEYOND production committee was 30%, the stake in the Vinland Saga Production Committee is 26.7%, and the stake in the Vivy -Fluorite Eye’s Song-Production Committee is 13.3%.
