Voice actress Sumire Uesaka is facing specific kidnapping and death threats following her appearance on the Genshin Impact anniversary livestream in Japan.

Uesaka’s agency, Voice Kit, revealed the details of the threats in an update on its official website on Sep 15, a day after initially announcing that multiple malicious emails containing threats of harm against Uesaka had been sent to the agency.

According to the agency, the threats include statements about kidnapping and killing Uesaka with multiple people by Sep 27, as well as claims that the sender knows her current address and suggestions that she could be kidnapped near her home.

Voice Kit said it is taking the threats seriously and has prioritized the safety of Uesaka and those around her.

They have already reported the matter to the jurisdictional police station, filed a report and requested an investigation.

The company added that they will continue working with police and other relevant organizations and take strict action, including legal measures, against threats, threats of harm, defamation and other illegal acts targeting its talent.

We take this matter very seriously and, with the safety of our affiliated talent as our highest priority, have promptly consulted with and reported the incident to the jurisdictional police station and requested an investigation.
Regarding threats, threats of harm, defamation, and other illegal acts against our affiliated talent, our company will continue to work closely with the police and other relevant organizations and take strict action, including legal measures.

Due to the specificity and potential danger of the threats, Voice Kit is currently consulting with event organizers and other relevant parties to determine whether Uesaka can participate in events and performances scheduled through Sept 27.

The agency said it will issue another announcement if there are any changes to her scheduled appearances.

The threats have reportedly emerged following Uesaka’s appearance on Genshin Impact‘s anniversary livestream, according to posts circulating among fans online. Uesaka voices Odette in the game and is also an active player.

Some fans have claimed that her energetic and informal behavior during the livestream prompted backlash from a section of the game’s online community, with the controversy allegedly escalating into threatening messages.

However, Voice Kit has not publicly stated that the Genshin Impact livestream was the motive behind the threats.

We apologize for causing concern among everyone who supports her, as well as the relevant parties, but we kindly ask for your understanding regarding our response, which prioritizes ensuring safety. We also ask that you refrain from speculation regarding this matter, as well as identifying or spreading information about the individuals or accounts involved,” they added.

Sumire Uesaka is known for voicing Alisa Mikhailovna Kujou in Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian, Sanae Dekomori in Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!, Lum in Urusei Yatsura, and Shalltear Bloodfallen in Overlord, among many others.
