The release date for volume 39 of Yoshihiro Togashi’s Hunter x Hunter manga has been officially confirmed, ending a nearly two-year wait for fans of the long-running series.
According to Shueisha’s official website, Hunter x Hunter volume 39 will be released in Japan on July 3, 2026. The upcoming volume will contain 208 pages and is priced at 572 yen.
This marks the first new collected volume of the manga since volume 38 was published on Sep 4, 2024.
The manga’s publication history has been marked by frequent hiatuses due to Togashi’s health issues. The creator has previously spoken about suffering from chronic back pain, which has significantly affected his ability to continue working on the series.
Following the publication of chapter 400 in the Dec 26, 2022, issue of Weekly Shonen Jump, Shueisha announced that Hunter x Hunter would no longer adhere to a fixed weekly serialization schedule. The publisher stated that future chapter releases would be determined with consideration for Togashi’s health
The upcoming release arrives following the manga’s brief return to serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2024. Hunter x Hunter resumed publication with chapter 401 in the magazine’s Oct 7, 2024 issue after a lengthy hiatus and continued till chapter 410, which released on Dec 8, 2024.
The series is currently in the Succession Contest Arc, which centers on a voyage to the unexplored Dark Continent and the deadly conflict surrounding the Kakin Empire’s royal succession. Kurapika is at the center of the ongoing storyline, along with the members of the Phantom Troupe.
Hunter x Hunter has been serialized in Shueisha’s shonen manga magazine Weekly Shonen Jump since March 1998.
It was adapted into a 62-episode anime television series produced by Nippon Animation and directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi, which ran on Fuji Television from October 1999 to March 2001. Three separate original video animations (OVAs) totaling 30 episodes were subsequently produced by Nippon Animation and released in Japan from 2002 to 2004.
