Yoshihiro Togashi, the creator of Hunter x Hunter, shared an update on Dec 16, 2024 via his official X account revealing that he is currently working on dialogue and adjusting the timeline for the next 50 chapters of the series.
The author will resume working on the manuscripts that were put on hold after he is done with this.
“I am confirming and adjusting the dialogue and timeline for the next 50 chapters scheduled for publication. Once this is complete, I plan to resume inking and finishing the manuscripts that were previously put on hold.”
This update comes after a series of health-related posts from the manga creator over the past month. On Nov 28, 2024, Togashi revealed that he had recently undergone surgery, though he did not provide specifics about the procedure.
He later shared that he had been bedridden for several days. While still unsteady, Togashi reported that he had recovered enough to move around his house and retrieve his work smartphone, adding that it was difficult for him to ask for assistance during his recovery.
On De 14, Togashi disclosed more about his recent struggles, mentioning that he had had lost 5 kilograms while bedridden.
Despite these challenges, Togashi continued working on drafts for Hunter x Hunter chapters during his recovery.
Hunter x Hunter manga is currently on a hiatus. The last published chapter is 410, which released on Dec 8, 2024.
No return date has been confirmed for the series. However, it was revealed that “the next chapter will be published as soon as it is decided”.
Hunter x Hunter manga had resumed in the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump in this year’s 45th issue on Oct 7, 2024, marking the first new chapter in nearly two years since the manga went on a hiatus following the release of chapter 400 in December 2022.
Togashi had also previously had revealed the ending of Hunter x Hunter to the guests of TV Asahi’s popular variety show Iwakura and Yoshizumi in case he passed away before the completion of the manga.
The author revealed three planned endings to the HxH manga – A, B, and C, all of which will have different levels of satisfaction from the fans.
Hunter x Hunter has been serialized in Shueisha’s shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump since March 1998, although the manga has frequently gone on extended hiatuses since 2006.
It was adapted into a 62-episode anime television series produced by Nippon Animation and directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi, which ran on Fuji Television from October 1999 to March 2001.
Three separate original video animations (OVAs) totaling 30 episodes were subsequently produced by Nippon Animation and released in Japan from 2002 to 2004.
