During the 30th anniversary program of the Evangelion anime, which took place on Feb 23, 2026, it was announced that the franchise will be getting a new series, teased as its “Next Genesis.”
Studio Khara, founded by Evangelion director Hideaki Anno, is set to animate the the new instalment along with Cloverworks.
Kazuya Tsurumaki, who worked with Studio Khara on the recent Gundam GQuuuuuuX, is serving as one of the directors. Tsurumaki is no stranger to the Evangelion franchise as he served as an assistant director to Anno on the original anime, while also having directed the Rebuild of Evangelion films.
In addition to Tsurumaki, Toko Yatabe, who was an assistant director on Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time, will also be directing the new series.
However, fans seem most excited about the project roping in Nier: Automata game director and scenario writer Yoko Taro to be in charge of scripts and series composition for the new anime.
In addition to these staff members, it was also revealed that Keiichi Okabe will be composing the music for the series.

Evangelion also received a brand new anime short as a part of its 30th anniversary, which was screened at the event which took place at Yokohama Arena.
Neon Genesis Evangelion is a Japanese mecha anime television series produced by Gainax, animated by Tatsunoko, and directed by Hideaki Anno. It was broadcast on TV Tokyo from October 1995 to March 1996.
In 1997, Hideaki Anno and Gainax released the feature film The End of Evangelion, which serves as an alternate ending replacing the final two episodes. A series of four films, titled Rebuild of Evangelion, retelling the events of the series with different plot elements and a new ending, were released between 2007 and 2021.
