The Evangelion franchise will receive a brand-new short anime as part of its 30th anniversary celebrations, with series creator Hideaki Anno returning to oversee the project.
The short, titled Evangelion Broadcast 30th Anniversary Special Screening, is approximately 13 minutes long and has been produced exclusively for “EVANGELION:30+; 30th ANNIVERSARY OF EVANGELION,” a three-day festival running from Feb. 21-23, 2026, at Yokohama Arena.
Anno is credited with planning, writing the script and serving as general supervisor on the project. Naoyuki Asano, who served as animation director on Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time, will direct the new short.
In addition to Anno and Asano, several longtime Evangelion staff members are involved in the project. Kazuya Tsurumaki, Shinji Higuchi and Ikki Todoroki, all of whom have contributed to past Evangelion productions, are credited as supervisors.
While no details on the anime have been revealed, it is confirmed to be a venue-exclusive screening and will receive its world premiere at the anniversary event.
The short anime will be shown once per day during the three-day festival on a large LED screen measuring approximately 18 meters wide and 15 meters tall, installed on the event’s main stage.

Access to the screening will be included with specific ticket tiers. Attendees holding a STAGE AREA Ticket, which allows full-day access to all stage programs, will be able to view the screening. The same applies to holders of the ALL AREA Pass, which grants entry to both the stage area and the EVA EXTRA 30 exhibition zone, though organizers have confirmed that all ALL AREA Passes are already sold out.

In 1997, Hideaki Anno and Gainax released the feature film The End of Evangelion, which serves as an alternate ending replacing the final two episodes.
