Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle – Chapter 1: Akaza’s Return continues its record breaking run, officially becoming the first Japanese movie in history to surpass 100 billion yen in worldwide box office revenue.
The movie reached a cumulative worldwide total of 106,370,568,950 yen (approximately USD 686.8 million) as of Nov. 16, driven by 89,177,796 admissions. The second highest earning Japanese film, which is Mugen Train, has meanwhile earned USD 486 million including the 2025 release.
In Japan alone, the Infinity Castle movie recorded 26,045,587 admissions, earning over 37.927 billion yen (approximately USD 245.4 million) in 122 days since its July 18 release. This domestic total places it as the second highest-grossing film of all time in Japan, trailing only its predecessor.
Infinity Castle had outpaced Mugen Train at the Japanese Box Office in almost every phase. However, it still hasn’t caught up to the 40 billion yen mark which the latter earned.
According to the numbers on Box Office Mojo, the movie (as of Nov. 17) has a global gross of over USD 729 million, making the fifth highest-grossing movie of 2025.
The movie’s earnings were boosted over the weekend due to its release in China, where it opened with an impressive USD 52.5 million. This strong performance in the country is expected to push the movie over USD 1 billion mark eventually.
Following the movie’s spectacular run in theatres, Crunchyroll is planning a big push for the movie at Oscars.
Akaza’s Return is the first of a planned trilogy of films adapting the climactic final saga of Koyoharu Gotoge’s manga. The film picks up immediately after the Hashira Training Arc, with the Demon Slayer Corps lured into the titular Infinity Castle by Muzan Kibutsuji, forcing them into a series of desperate one-on-one battles.
As of July 2025, the Demon Slayer manga, which was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2016 to 2020, had surpassed 220 million copies in circulation worldwide, including digital versions, making it one of the best selling manga ever.
