Crunchyroll announced nominees for the streaming service’s 6th Annual Crunchyroll Anime Awards on Tuesday, Jan 18, 2022, including anime series, characters, and creators across eight different streaming platforms. Voting is now open and the full list of nominees can be found below.
“86 Eighty-Six,” “Attack on Titan Final Season Part 1,” “Jujutsu Kaisen” (season 2), Oddtaxi,” “Ranking of Kings,” and “Sonny Boy” are among the top nominees in the key best anime category.
The tally includes 156 nominees in 26 categories, via 54 different properties.
The 20 main categories include awards for Anime of the Year, Best Director, Film of The Year, and Best Character Design, as well as less traditional recognitions like Best Boy and Best Fight Scene.
There are six regional categories for non-Japanese vocal performances across Crunchyroll’s dub catalog, including Spanish, German, French, Portuguese, Castillian, and Russian.
Funimation, Hulu, Netflix, Prime Video, iTunes, YouTube, HBO Max, and Crunchyroll are all streamers represented by this year’s nominations.
MAPPA, OLM, P.I.C.S., Wit, Madhouse, A-1, LIDENFILMS, CloverWorks, TMS Entertainment, Pine Jam, Pierrot, KyoAni, Bones, White Fox, Ufotable, Studio Bind, Millepensee, Production I.G, Toei, A.P.P.P., Gonzo, Trigger, Kadokawa Pictures, Orange, Graphinica, Khara, J.C Staff, A-1 Pictures, Sunrise, Studio Blanc, Asahi Production, Telecom Animation, Brian’s Base, Eight Bit, Studio Chizu, P.A Works, Signal.MD and Sublimation represented the 38 studios up against each other.
Voting is open from Jan 18 until Jan 25, 2022, and participants can vote each day for their favorite choices.
The winners of the 2022 Anime Awards will be announced on the Anime Awards website and Crunchyroll social media networks on Wednesday, February 9, 2022. The winners are determined by a committee of international judges and global anime fans, with a deciding vote conducted in the event of a tie in any category.

“The Crunchyroll Anime Awards is a yearly celebration of the creators, voice actors, studios and series from the past year that have excited and energized the global anime community,” said Gita Rebbapragada, chief marketing officer of the Funimation Global Group. She continued, “The Anime Awards is entering its sixth year by shattering records – showcasing more anime on more services than ever before.”
Crunchyroll also published an explainer on their criteria since several popular shows like JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Entertainment District Arc didn’t qualify for this year’s awards
Jujutsu Kaisen won 2021’s Anime of the Year award. Last year’s awards attracted 15 million votes from over 200 countries and territories, up 35% from the previous year.
