The official Twitter account for Uzumaki Anime released a statement on June 27 that the anime broadcast will be pushed ahead one more time.
The tweet says the production team for the anime and director Nagahama has asked for extra time to replicate the intricate designs of Junji Ito’s classic work perfectly.
The tweet also mentions that they want to make the series available for the audience soon. However, they don’t want the final product to be mediocre compared to Ito’s manga designs.
Here’s the official statement:
The anime is being produced by Production I.G USA and Adult Swim in collaboration.
The Uzumaki anime is based on Junji Ito‘s manga of same name. The manga was first published in 1998 and ended in 1999. The story revolves around the residents of a town where several weird occurrences related to a spiral shape (Uzumaki) happen sequentially. Viz Media released the English version of the manga in 3 volumes from 2007 to 2008.
The Uzumaki anime was set to release on Toonami in 2022.
