The official Toei JP website had released an urgent notice on June 4th regarding the fake “Toei Animation UK” website that was falsely striking creators on youtube. They tracked down the domain of the fake site and confirmed that the site has no relationship with the official company or overseas affiliated companies.
The official Toei JP website took action against the fraud after a lot of retweets and protests on Twitter. We at AnimeHunch have confirmed that the fake website no longer exists.
Since May 27, 2021, a lot of Anime YouTube channels, especially a lot of Dragon Ball Youtube creators, complained about an individual who works at Toei Corporation who falsely struck their channels with copyright issues. The imposter had prompted creators to disclose personal information in exchange for removing the strikes.
The officials at Toei Animation Co., Ltd., responsible for anime series like Sailor Moon, Slam Dunk, Digimon, One Piece confirmed that it was spoofing act using the e-mail address (@ toei.co.uk) and a domain name of the same. However, the official website has assured that they use a different domain name for their email address.
In 1948 animators Kenzō Masaoka and Zenjirō Yamamoto founded Toei studio as Japan Animated Films. In 1956, Toei purchased the studio and it was renamed Toei Doga Co., Ltd. doing business as Toei Animation Co., Ltd. outside Japan. In 1998, the Japanese name was renamed to Toei Animation. It has created a number of TV series and movies and adapted Japanese comics as animated series, many popular worldwide. The company headquarters is at Ohizumi Studio in Nerima, Tokyo. Their mascot is the cat Pero, from the company’s 1969 film adaptation of Puss in Boots.
