The Beginning After The End anime started airing on 30th March 2025, another win for the isekai lovers. The anime begins by showcasing the previous life of our protagonist, Arthur named Grey in his previous birth, the most powerful King of his nation.
Apart from being powerful King Grey was an orphan child who grew up to be cruel, sadistic and apathetic. Although these qualities led him to the throne, he was never at peace.
Grey’s world was a dystopic monarchy where modern technology was used to attack other nations and make the lives of others hell. Grey added to that world by becoming more cruel in his pursuit of the throne and eventually his life ended mysteriously.
He was then reborn on another planet as Arthur Leywin and for the first time in his life, Grey experienced peace. Although normal people love peace, Grey as Arthur finds it constricting.
Although anime begins as an isekai, a genre that is being exploited abundantly nowadays, its art style and storytelling seem similar to those of many other isekai anime, such as Slime and Mushoku Tensei.
Arthur’s new parents dot him with love and care, a strong contrast to his previous life which further increases his inner turmoil. This turmoil is displayed beautifully as conflicting memories from his past and present are shown.
Furthermore, inheriting memories from his previous life also helped young Arthur quickly understand the social structure and power systems of this new world. Using the training from his previous life, Arthur starts experimenting with magic and quickly learns to use it.
Indicating that in this world too, he will be a prodigy. However, unlike Grey, Arthur has developed a soft corner for his parents and has learned to express his emotions further indicating that this life will be different.
At the end of the episode, however, the presence of an evil being is shown. Further indicating that Arthur has to pay for the crimes Grey committed and witness the err of his karmas in his previous life.
The anime is based on the indie comic series created by TurtleMe, illustrated by Fuyuki23 and published by Tapas Entertainment. Natsumi Fujiwara plays Arthur Leywin and Makoto Furukawa plays King Grey.
The opening theme song is played by KINGSBLOOD and is performed by Kala. The anime will begin streaming on Crunchyroll from 30th March 2025.
The webtoon The Beginning After The End is based on TurtleMe’s original 2017 web novel, which began publishing on Tapas in July 2018, featuring illustrations by Fuyuki23. It began its sixth season in June 2023 and Rise Entertainment took over the artwork. The webtoon has been published in Japan by Piccoma since 2020.
