The Beginning After The End episode 2 continues where the previous one ended. After acknowledging his feelings towards his parents, Arthur has grown even more fond of them.
His growing compassion for them and his inability to process emotions as King Grey is perfectly shown in his flashback memory. In that memory, Grey and his ministers are shown sentencing his assailant to banishment.
The assailant is to be accompanied by his wife and a child, however, banishment meant living a life worse than death. Understanding the grave dangers up ahead, the assailant pleads to let his family go and instead asks the punishment to be doled out to him only.
Grey, being the arrogant and emotionless King, instead killed the assailant’s family in front of him. The ministers call it the King’s mercy since it spared them a lifetime of pain and struggle. The assailant seeing his family dead went into shock and accepted it as mercy as well.
And now as Arthur, Grey has a family he cares about and they are even ready to move to a different city so that he could grow up to be a strong person. This moves something inside Arthur’s thawing heart.
On their way to a different city, Arthur showcases his talent to his parent’s old party members who have joined them. Witnessing his talent, everyone is awed and believes him to be a genius. Meanwhile, Arthur notices something wrong with his mother.
The world of TBATE is a fantasy world with mystical beasts and mana rich but technologically it is still in the medieval age. Thus, the party has to face attacks constantly from beasts, bandits and monsters.
Another thing Arthur notices about his mother is that her healing magic is extremely rare in this world. So much so that she is not allowed to use it unless in a secluded place. This paints a target on her back.
During their journey, the party is attacked by a group of bandits and Arthur is quick to notice that despite the party having an upper hand in skill the sheer number of the bandits is overwhelming. And during this scuffle, his father is gravely injured.
Being brave, Arthur offers to join the battle however he is asked to take care of his mother who is about to become a mother for the second time and Arthur is going to be an older brother. Although, he wants to protect his mother Arthur’s little body proves inefficient and he is thrown off a cliff.
While falling, Arthur feels the same feeling the assailant felt when his family was “spared” from a life much more horrible than death. Acknowledging that he indeed has so much to achieve in life, Arthur falls and is face to face with a demon.
Talking about the animation of the series so far, the animation is barely something worthy enough to be spoken about. Especially the fight scenes in the second episode were below average with just swish sounds and still frames.
The animation for the fight sequence could be much better if they put some effort into it. While the story progression seems to going in a different path than what the first episode showed us to be. This could be a good thing.
