Hiro Mashima has revealed the title and new details for the upcoming Fairy Tail manga series that is set to launch as part of the franchise’s 20th anniversary celebrations.
In a post on X, Mashima announced that the short-term serialization will be titled Re:FANTASIA. The manga is scheduled to begin in Weekly Shonen Magazine’s issue releasing on July 29.
Additional information about the project was also revealed during a recent interview conducted in France, Mashima was asked about the anniversary mini-series planned for Weekly Shonen Magazine. While being careful not to reveal too much, the creator confirmed that the manga will focus on Laxus Dreyar.
“My editors are present in the room, so I’m not quite sure what I’m allowed to say… (laughter). The next mini-series will be centered on Luxus. The story is going to be stunning, I hope you’ll like it,” Mashima stated.
Laxus Dreyar is an S-Class Mage of the Fairy Tail Guild and the grandson of guild master Makarov Dreyar. He is also the son of Ivan Dreyar, the leader of the former Raven Tail guild. Initially introduced as an arrogant and power-driven figure, Laxus eventually became one of Fairy Tail’s most dependable members.
The Fantasia in the title could refer to the annual Fantasia Parade held in Magnolia Town, a celebration that played a major role in Laxus’ character development during the Battle of Fairy Tail arc.
While the new work is slated to release on July 29, it was originally supposed to launch on Aug. 5. However, the magazine’s editorial department later announced that the start date had been moved forward by one week due to scheduling considerations and Mashima’s unexpectedly rapid progress on the manuscript.
Mashima launched Fairy Tail in August 2006 in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine. It ran for 545 chapters.
The manga has over 72 million copies in circulation and has been adapted into anime by A-1 Pictures in collaboration with other studios. There are three seasons of the anime in total, along with multiple anime films and OVAs too.
