Kagurabachi Gets Anime Adaptation By CygamesPictures

Takeru Hokazono’s Kagurabachi manga is set to receive an anime adaptation, according to an exclusive interview published by Toyo Kezai.

The anime will be produced by CyberAgent’s animation studio, CygamesPictures, with Shochiku co-producing it.

Specific details regarding its release or streaming platforms are yet to be announced.

Anime producers have hailed Kagurabachi as a highly desirable title where top-tier Jump titles are increasingly scarce. “It has everything to thrive both domestically and internationally,” said an industry insider.

According to the insider, during the competition for production rights, major players in anime production, including well-known studios and TV networks with extensive experience adapting Jump series, submitted bids.

However, the surprising winners were CyberAgent and Shochiku, companies not typically associated with anime production dominance.

They suggested that creative pitches, including a pilot promotional video, likely played a crucial role in the decision.

According to the insider, Shueisha’s preference for diversifying production studios to avoid overburdening established players like MAPPA and WIT Studio may have also influenced the outcome.

Kagurabachi has been serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine since September 2023. The first tankobon volume was released on Feb 2, 2024.

Viz Media and Shueisha’s Manga Plus platform are publishing the series in English.

The manga also has its fair share of accolades – winning the Tsugi Manga (Next Manga 2024) award and being chosen as the best up-and-coming manga on Shueisha’s Manga Plus app by fans during Anime Expo 2024.

It has also garnered significant international attention. The English version of Chapter 1 achieved the top spot in global views on MANGA Plus by SHUEISHA just one week after its debut.

As a part of manga’s first anniversary, the series launched a fan contest that allows readers to create and submit designs of their own ‘Mob Sorcerer’ characters.
