As Oshi No Ko manga concluded in the 50th issue of Weekly Shonen Jump, and it garnered mixed reaction from readers. A part of their concerns centered on their favorite characters not getting a satisfying or at least a proper conclusion.
However, in an interview conducted two months prior to the series’ conclusion author Aka Akasaka had actually revealed that he would not be aiming to give characters a proper conclusion.
Speaking with Da Vinci Magazine, Akasaka and Mengo Yokoyari had offered insight into their approach for the final arc, and their decisions on how the story would close out.
Unlike his previous work, Kaguya-sama: Love Is War, where every character received a well-rounded and satisfying conclusion, Akasaka noted that he would take a different approach with Oshi No Ko, deciding not to provide a closure for each character.
When asked what readers could expect from the final chapters, Akasaka shared that the last arc of the manga, titled “Toward the Stars and Dreams,” had been a challenging yet meaningful journey for him and his team.
Despite being nervous about whether the final arc successfully embodies its theme, Akasaka confirmed that not all characters will be given a definite resolution, as Oshi No Ko would prioritize resolving the core storyline, without necessarily offering individual endings for all.
“We’ve titled the final arc of 【Oshi no Ko】 ‘Toward the Stars and Dreams.’ We’re nervous about whether we’re capturing the essence of that image in the manga. When I was working on Kaguya-sama, I tended to give each character a proper send-off, but this time I’m not planning to do that. We’re putting in the effort to showcase everything we wanted to show and resolve all issues. Maybe some parts will be different from what I’ve told Mengo.“
To this, the manga’s illustrator Mengo Yokoyari expressed full support, encouraging him to take the time needed to tell the story properly and without regret.
“I’m okay with that. Take your time. Make sure you have no regrets left when the story is over. I can wait as long as you need. And you can talk to me whenever you are worried.“
