The official website for the Witch Hat Atelier anime announced, following the broadcast of the 13th episode, that the series will return for a second season.
The staff also unveiled a commemorative illustration by original manga creator Kamome Shirahama and shared messages from both Shirahama and director Ayumu Watanabe, who teased that the story “will grow even bigger and deeper” in the upcoming season.
In his message to fans, Watanabe thanked viewers for supporting the first season, saying the staff carefully built each episode while staying close to the story, much like Coco and her friends weave magic.
He said this approach will continue into the second season as the anime explores more of the world and the meaning behind its many forms of magic.
“Thank you very much for watching the first season. Just as Coco and her friends weave magic through every careful stroke of the pen, we too have carefully crafted each episode while staying true to the story. And that journey will continue. The story will grow even bigger and deeper, offering Coco and her companions even more opportunities to learn about and discover the mysteries of magic. New locations will appear. New characters will cross paths with Coco and her friends. As they come to better understand the world, the many forms of magic will take on even greater meaning. We will continue pouring our hearts into this adventure and are excited to bring it to life. Please look forward to what’s to come.“
Shirahama also expressed her excitement over the continuation, congratulating the staff on securing a second season.
Acknowledging that many viewers were likely surprised by where the finale ended, she encouraged fans to remain patient, saying that, as the original creator, she could confidently guarantee that the continuation would be worth waiting for.
“Congratulations on the production of Season 2, and thank you very much. Thankfully, the magical show created by this incredible production team is far from over, and it seems they’ll continue bringing it to us with the highest possible quality. I’m sure many viewers were left thinking, ‘Wait… it ends here!?’ But as the original creator, I can wholeheartedly promise that it’s worth waiting for. Let’s all look forward together to the culmination of the passion, dedication, and craftsmanship poured into this series by so many talented ‘magicians.‘”
