Bocchi The Rock! Announces New Anime Movie Focusing On Seika And Nijika For 2027

Bocchi the Rock! is getting a new anime movie titled Bocchi the Rock! Hoshi no Ashiato (Starry Footprints), with the film scheduled to premiere in 2027.

The film adapts the prequel story included at the end of volume 5 of the manga and will focus on Seika Ijichi and her younger sister, Nijika, exploring their past and the events surrounding their separation 10 years ago.

A teaser and a key visual were released for the movie along with the announcement.

Shin Wakabayashi (Wonder Egg Priority) will direct the film, with Yukiko Horiguchi (K-On!) handling character designs and Erika Yoshida writing the screenplay.

CloverWorks, which produced the anime, will return to animate the movie. ANIMEC will handle distribution.

Maaya Uchida and Sayumi Suzushiro will reprise their respective roles as Seika and Nijika.

Manga creator Aki Hamaji shared her thoughts on the movie adaptation, revealing that she originally conceived the story while returning home from the recording sessions for the first season of the anime.

She wanted to expand on the sisters’ past, which was briefly depicted at the end of episode 8, through the manga.

I am incredibly honored that I have been given the opportunity to bring the story of Nijika and Seika, which was included in Volume 5 of the Bocchi the Rock! manga, to audiences in the form of a movie.

I originally came up with this story on my way home from the recording sessions for Season 1 of the TV anime. I wanted to expand on the past of these two characters, which was depicted at the end of Episode 8, through the manga as well. That’s how I came to create the story of the events leading up to the establishment of STARRY.

For this movie, screenwriter Erika Yoshida has done a wonderful job of expanding on that story. The character design illustrations by Yukiko Horiguchi vividly bring to mind the atmosphere of Shimokitazawa from those days, even just by looking at them.

Through repeated discussions with Director Shin Wakabayashi and the rest of the production team, I could clearly feel how deeply they understood and valued the core emotions and worldview of the original manga. It has only made me more excited to show this story to fans as soon as possible.

I am confident that this will be a film that both longtime readers of the original manga and those encountering Bocchi the Rock! for the first time can enjoy. I hope you look forward to its completion!

Bocchi the Rock! manga by Aki Hamaji has been serialized in Houbunsha’s seinen magazine Manga Time Kirara MAX since December 2017, with its chapters compiled into eight tankobon volumes as of November 2025.

Season 1 of the anime adaptation aired from October to December 2022. A two-part theatrical compilation film was released in 2024, and a second TV anime season is currently in production.
