Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday’s issue #46 revealed that Tonikaku Kawaii manga (Fly Me To The Moon) will be going on a hiatus for a month with the release of chapter 250.
While it is normal for mangaka to take breaks, often for reasons that include health issues, what stood out in the case of Kenjiro Hata, the mangaka of Tonikaku Kawaii, was the involvement of a popular manga.
The manga is question is none other than Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen.
Turns out chapter 236 of the manga, which was released on Sep 24, was so shocking for the Kenjiro Hata because of the death of the fan favourite character Gojo that it pushed him to take a month long break.
“The story of Jujutsu Kaisen was too shocking, so I will be taking a break for a while,” revealed Kenjiro Hatta in the author’s note in the latest chapter.
Tonikaku Kawaii chapter 251 will release in the magazine’s issue #50.
Tonikaku Kawaii is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Kenjiro Hata. It has been serialized in Shogakukan’s shonen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Sunday since February 2018, with its chapters collected in 25 tankobon volumes as of September 2023.
The first season of Tonikaku Kawaii, produced by Seven Arc Studios, aired from October 2020 to December 2020. An OVA titled Tonikaku Kawaii: SNS premiered on Aug 18, 2021.
The second season and its English dub premiered on April 8, 2023. A four-episode original net animation (ONA) titled Tonikawa: Over the Moon for You – High School Days was released from July to August 2023.
