The leaks from volume extras of Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 23 surfaced online recently. Much to fans’ surprise author Gege Akutami has included an illustration of Tengen’s human form in them.
The leaked illustration also confirmed that Tengen was indeed a woman during her time. This also explains why all Star Plasma Vessels were women.
The character looks petite, sporting a messy hairstyle and a bored lazy expression. She is probably wearing a kosode with a black obi. The kosode was an everyday garment in Japan which originated in the Heian era, matching the origins of the character too.

This also led netizens to speculate about Kenjaku’s relationship with Tengen. Some also suggested that Kenjaku could have been a woman too.
Now that Tengen’s human form was revealed, a lot of fans were now calling for Akutami to reveal the human form of Ryomen Sukuna in the future volume extras.

Tengen has been central to the plot of both the hidden inventory and the culling game arc. They possess the immortality cursed technique. Due to this they have to merge with a star plasma vessel every 500 years in order to reset the technique and rewrite their body’s genetic information. Failure to do so will lead to Tengen’s evolution and cause large scale catastrophe.
Jujutsu Kaisen volume 23 will release on July 4, 2023. The manga currently has 80 million copies in circulation.
