WEBTOON Entertainment’s LINE Digital Frontier has announced the launch of a new webcomic production company, STUDIO WHITE, in collaboration with Kadokawa and REDICE STUDIO, which will develop webcomics based on several of Kadokawa’s popular titles, including spinoffs of Sword Art Online, Record of Lodoss War, Slayers, and The Familiar of Zero.
Ryo Mizuno’s Record of Lodoss War will be the studio’s first project. It is scheduled to launch on May 9, 2026, in Korean on WEBTOON, with releases in English, Japanese, French, Traditional Chinese, Thai, and Indonesian to follow.
The project will feature a new story set in an untold chapter of the Lodoss War, based on an original concept by Mizuno.
Mizuno commented that seeing his work being adapted into a webcomic more than 30 years after the franchise began was “genuinely moving.”
“More than thirty years have passed since Record of Lodoss War first came to life, and seeing it take on a new form as a WEBTOON webcomic is genuinely moving. This new story explores an untold chapter of the war, one that has never appeared in the novels. I provided the original concept and placed my trust in a production team I believe in deeply to bring the characters and world to life. Honestly, I’m looking forward to reading it myself and discovering what kind of battles unfold through the dynamic vertical scroll format. I hope longtime fans will find something new here, and that newcomers will find it a welcoming door into the world of fantasy storytelling,” said Mizuno.
REDICE STUDIO CEO Jung-Sook Jang emphasized the creative potential of adapting established stories into webcomics, stating that the team has invested heavily in reinterpreting the source material.
“The original stories provided by Kadokawa have given us endless inspiration and our team has poured their hearts and souls into breathing new life into these adaptations. Carefully crafted over many years, we hope readers everywhere will enjoy what we have created together.”
The newly formed STUDIO WHITE is positioned as a joint effort combining Kadokawa’s catalog of established IP with REDICE STUDIO’s webcomic production expertise.
REDICE STUDIO is known for producing major webcomic hits such as Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint, Solo Leveling, 7FATES: CHAKHO, and Assassin’s Creed: Forgotten Temple.
