Studio Gaga’s Chief Assistant Says It Will Be Hard To Perfectly Reproduce Berserk

They also praised the supervision of Kouji Mori in their tweet.

Twitter user Kurosaki (@Drache_Doratan), who is the chief assistant at Studio Gaga, said in their recent tweet that it would hard to achieve a perfect and faithful reproduction of Berserk manga as drawn by late author Kentaro Miura.

“From now on, Berserk, which has been 99.2% drawn by Kentaro Miura (about 0.8% was drawn by the staff. No, about 1%?) will be drawn 100% by staff only. As stated in the advance notice, it will not be a faithful and perfect reproduction, but we ask for your patience until the end,” Kurosaki wrote in the tweet.

Kouji Mori, who is currently supervising the manga, too said that it would be hard to tell the story the way Miura wanted it to be told. However, he assured the readers of the skills that Miura’s assistants possessed.

“All I can do is try to remember and tell the story that Miura and I talked about. I may not be able to do it as well as I would like, and my memory may be faulty. But the skill of Miura’s disciples is real! Please look forward to them!” Mori tweeted.

The chief assistant, however, praised Mori’s supervision of Berserk. According to Kurosaki, Mori is a meticulous supervisor, who explained everything to the staff working on the manga in detail. And because of that, it felt as if the staff was working with Miura himself.

“The supervision by Dr. Koji Mori is meticulous,” Kurosaki. “The so-called final episode was also clearly explained and understood. I was convinced that I was working with Mr. Miura as if we were co-authors, and there were no lies or fabrications whatsoever!”

Berserk manga resumed serialization on June 24, 2022, releasing two chapters at once in issue #13 of Young Animal magazine.

The manga trended on twitter immediately, with fans too noticing that there was a difference in quality, albeit a small one. However, the general consensus was that the manga was drawn well.

On June 7, 2022, the editorial department of Hakusensha’s Young Animal magazine and Kouji Mori had released a statement saying that Kentaro Miura’s magnum opus will resume serialization.

The manga is being supervised by Miura’s long time friend and fellow mangaka, Mori, and is worked on by Miura’s studio, Studio Gaga, which comprises of his assistants and apprentices.

Berserk now has the credits, “Original work by Kentarou Miura, manga by Studio Gaga, supervised by Kouji Mori.”

The statement also said that a new arc will begin once the Elf Island arc concludes.

Tokyo Ghoul author Sui Ishida had made a Guts illustration to commemorate the return of Berserk manga.

Kentarou Miura first published a one-shot version of Berserk manga in Hakusensha’s Monthly Comicomi magazine in 1988. He later launched the Berserk manga in Hakusensha’s Monthly Animal House magazine in 1989 which later continued in Young Animal magazine till date.

The manga has 40 million plus copies in circulation.

The manga further inspired a TV anime series in 1997 and a trilogy of movies from 2012 to 2013. A re-edited version of the Berserk: Golden Age Arc trilogy movies will be broadcast on TV as ‘Berserk: Golden Age Arc Memorial Edition‘ in 2022. It will be first time the trilogy will be broadcast on TV.
