A new Naruto animated film is reportedly set to be unveiled at New York Comic Con 2026, with details about the project expected to be revealed during the anime’s panel, which is scheduled for Oct 10.
The upcoming panel, titled NARUTO: What’s Next?, will also cover several other developments across the franchise in addition to the film announcement.
What To Expect At NYCC’s NARUTO: What’s Next? Panel:
The panel will be held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York and will cover updates from across the Naruto franchise, including the Naruto Card Game.
While details about the new film have not yet been revealed, according to a Variety exclusive, the panel will include the film’s worldwide premiere details alongside the announcement.
Fans might also get a first major look at the upcoming theatrical project at the panel.
The new film will expand a franchise that has already received 11 theatrical films and 12 OVAs.
The event will feature Junko Takeuchi, the Japanese voice of Naruto Uzumaki, and Noriaki Sugiyama, the Japanese voice of Sasuke Uchiha. Yoshihiko Tominaga, executive producer at Studio Pierrot, will also appear, alongside a representative from Bandai.
In addition to the film, the Naruto Card Game will also receive a major spotlight during the panel.
Viz Media has confirmed that new information about the card game and its first promotional video will be presented at NYCC.
Additional surprise announcements concerning other Naruto media projects are also planned.
Naruto Anniversary Episodes Could Also Get An Update:
The timing of the panel has also led to speculation that new information about the long-delayed Naruto 20th-anniversary episodes could be revealed during the event.
The four-episode project was originally announced as part of the celebrations for the original anime’s 20th anniversary and was scheduled to premiere on Sep 3, 2023.
However, the episodes were postponed in August 2023, with the production team stating that the broadcast would be rescheduled.
A new premiere date has yet to be announced.
With the 25th anniversary of the anime coming up in 2027, there are rumors that a new anime project is in the works, which could either be the long delayed 20th anniversary episodes, the upcoming movie or something entirely different altogether.
The Naruto manga, written and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto, was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from 1999 to 2014 and has since become one of the publisher’s most internationally recognized manga properties.
The manga was adapted into two television anime series by Studio Pierrot and Aniplex. Naruto premiered in October 2002, while Naruto Shippūden followed in 2007 and concluded in March 2017.
A live-action Naruto film is also in development, with Destin Daniel Cretton attached to direct the project. Currently, casting calls have been released for the film.
