Following the broadcast of the second season of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End (Sousou no Frieren), it was announced that the anime will be getting a third season.
Frieren Season 3 is titled The Golden Land arc and will focus on the subjugation of the demon Macht, who is the strongest and the last surviving member of the Sages of Destruction.
A new teaser visual featuring Macht was released to commemorate the announcement. Additional details regarding cast and staff will be announced at a future date.
The last episode of Season 2 ended with a tease of the what will come in the next season, revealing that Denken’s homeland has been turned into gold by Macht, and that he is trying to save it by fighting the demon.
The Golden Land arc is widely considered to be one of the best arcs in the manga. Considering where Season 2 ended, the upcoming adaptation will likely cover the contents of the manga starting from chapter 81 through 104.
The second season of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End started airing on Jan 16, 2026 and ran for 10 episodes. Tomoya Kitagawa took over the as the director from Keiichiro Sato for Season 2, with the latter moving into a support role.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End anime is based on the manga of the same name by written by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe. As of December 2025, the chapters of the manga have been collected into 15 tankobon volumes.
It follows the journeys of an elven mage Frieren, who was previously a member of the party of adventures that defeated the demon king. As years pass, she witnesses her party members passing away, and realizes that she should have made a more conscious effort to connect with them. Now, she once again sets out on a journey with new companions, with the hopes of forming new connections, while the old memories still remain fresh.
