Crunchyroll Censors Asuna’s Bath Scene From The Latest Sword Art Online: Progressive Movie

Sword Art Online – Progressive – Scherzo of the Deep Night movie was added to Crunchyroll’s catalog on Nov 24, 2022. However, fans have noted that Asuna’s bath scene from the movie, where she appears naked, has been censored on the version that is being streamed on the platform.

The censoring happens in the form of “holy light” and scene cuts, with the skin-show being reduced to almost nothing in the scene. Both the censored and uncensored versions have been compiled into a video by a YouTube user.

The uncensored version of Asuna’s bath scene is available in the Blu-Ray version of the Sword Art Online: Progressive movie.

Sword Art Online: Progressive is an expanded retelling of the Aincrad storyline from the original Sword Art Online light novels. The novels became a reality after Tomohiko Ito, the director of Sword Art Online Season 1, asked author Reki Kawahara to write a short story for episode two of the anime, to fill in the gaps that were in flow of the story.

Kawahara realized that he enjoyed going back and working on expanding the Aincrad act, telling the story in added details. This eventually made him publish six volumes in the Progressive series till now. The first volume of the spin-off launched on October 2012.
