Crunchyroll has announced the return of its annual Anime Awards in 2025 with significant updates.
Announced at CCXP in São Paulo, Brazil, the ninth edition of the awards will take place in Tokyo, Japan, on May 25, 2025.
“The Crunchyroll Anime Awards is one of the biggest moments for anime all year – thanks to the creators honored and fans who will decide the winners. We’re thrilled to host the awards again in the birthplace of anime and produce a celebration of the world’s fastest growing entertainment space,” said Rahul Purini, President of Crunchyroll.
Among the key changes for 2025 is the introduction of brand-new categories, including Best Isekai and Best Hindi Voice Artist. There will be a total of 32 categories.
Moreover, Crunchyroll has expanded the eligibility period to include five anime seasons, spanning from Oct 1, 2023, to Dec 31, 2024. This transition ensures that no noteworthy series or film is overlooked during this milestone year.
Beginning in 2026, the eligibility period will align with the calendar year, i.e., from Jan 1 to Dec 31.
“Every year we see an outpouring of love and admiration from fans around the world, voting for and cheering on their favorite shows and creators. This year will be no different as anime continues to captivate larger and more diverse audiences than ever before,” added Gita Rebbapragada, Crunchyroll’s Chief Operating Officer.
The ceremony will feature a star-studded orange carpet and a global live stream. Returning hosts Sally Amaki, voice actress and idol, and Jon Kabira, a prominent entertainer, will lead the event.
Drag pop icon and musician Pabllo Vittar will debut as the first-ever Brazilian celebrity presenter, with additional presenters and musical performers to be announced closer to the event.
Sony Group Corporation Chairman and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida will also return to deliver opening remarks.
Nominees in each category will be revealed on April 3, 2025, with fan voting set to begin the same day. The selection process will be led by an independent panel of judges.
