The production of Bocchi The Rock! season 2 has been officially announced but with a major change—Yusuke Yamamoto will take over as director, replacing Keiichiro Saito, who led the first season.
The announcement was made on Feb 15, 2025, during the Kessoku Band TOUR “We will B” event, where a special teaser video and a new illustration by character designer Keito Oda were also revealed.
CloverWorks will continue producing the series, with Erika Yoshida returning as the scriptwriter. Character design will be handled by Keito Oda and Kerorira. No release date has been announced yet.
Saito congratulated the team on the sequel and expressed confidence in the new director, stating, “Congratulations on the announcement of Bocchi the Rock! Season 2! This time, I am passing the baton to Yusuke Yamamoto as director, but ever since the first season ended, I’ve received so many voices from fans hoping for a second season. I also know that many people have been working tirelessly to make this a reality, so I am truly delighted that we were able to officially announce it today. I trust that Yamamoto-san will create an anime that is both incredibly fun, cute, and passionate, so I’m really looking forward to it! Bocchi the Rock! The fun continues! Thank you.“
Yamamoto, in turn, shared his enthusiasm, “It might be a little early for an announcement in this setting, but we made the decision to reveal it today because we wanted to share the news directly with as many fans as possible. I’m thrilled to be able to enjoy this journey again with Kessoku Band! As the new Bocchi the Rock! production team, we hope for your warm support.“
Season 1 of Bocchi The Rock! anime aired from October to December 2022.
A two-part compilation film was announced on May 21, 2023. The first film, BOCCHI THE ROCK! Re:, premiered in Japan on June 7, 2024, followed by BOCCHI THE ROCK! Re:Re: on Aug 9, 2024.
Bocchi the Rock! is a Japanese four-panel manga series written and illustrated by Aki Hamaji. It was initially serialized on Houbunsha’s Manga Time Kirara Max magazine on Dec 19, 2017, as a guest work. A full serialization started in the same magazine on March 19, 2018.
It has been collected into seven tankobon volumes as of October 2024.
