Fans eagerly anticipating the anime adaptation of the ‘frog’ scene from The Apothecary Diaries may not be the only ones feeling a bit flustered. Natsu Hyuuga, the author of the original light novel series, recently took to X (formerly Twitter) to share her own humorous apprehension about the scene in the upcoming episode 11 of season 2.
According to Hyuuga, season 2 episode 11 is anticipated to be particularly awkward to watch with family – and it will be even more awkward for her as her close relatives will be live streaming the episode.
“There’s talk about how the upcoming anime Apothecary Diaries will be awkward to watch with family, but what’s more awkward is me having my close relatives watching it in real-time,” Hyuuga’s post read on X.

The “frog episode” refers to a somewhat risqué scene that occurs in volume 3 of the The Apothecary Diaries. The scene involves the protagonist, Maomao, being startled by a frog landing on her head.
In her surprised reaction, she falls onto Jinshi, leading to an accidental discovery that reveals Jinshi is not a eunuch. This revelation occurs through a comical misunderstanding involving Maomao mistaking a certain part of Jinshi’s anatomy for the “frog.”
The preview images of Apothecary Diaries season 2 episode 11 have already teased this particular scene, so the excitement among the fanbase is at an all time high.
The episode will release on March 21, 2025.
According to them, this will also be a crucial turning point for both Maomao and Jinshi in the story, further underlining the importance of the scene.
The Apothecary Diaries season 2 started airing on Jan 10, 2025. It will run for two consecutive course.
The season is directed by Akinori Fudesaka, who had served as an assistant director for the anime’s first season. Norihiro Naganuma is in charge of series composition.
The Apothecary Diaries season 1 aired from Oct 22, 2023, to March 24, 2024.
The anime is produced by Toho Animation Studio and OLM. Norihiro Naganuma directed the first season and supervised the scripts, and Akinori Fudesaka served as assistant director. Yukiko Nakatani designed the characters, and Satoru Kōsaki, Kevin Penkin, and Alisa Okehazama composed the music.
It is based on the light novel series written by Natsu Hyuga and illustrated by Touko Shino. It was serialized online since 2011 on the user-generated novel publishing website Shosetsuka ni Naro. In the following year, it was acquired by Shufunotomo, who initially published the series as a novel with a single volume in 2012, and then as a light novel series in 2014.
It has been adapted into two manga series in 2017, with one published by Square Enix in Monthly Big Gangan, and another one published by Shogakukan in Monthly Sunday Gene-X.
The light novel is licensed in North America by J-Novel Club, and the manga illustrated by Nekokurage is licensed by Square Enix.
