An animation tribute created by a fan for Naoki Urasawa’s manga 20th Century Boys has taken social media platforms by storm, with many fans mistaking it as an official trailer for anime announcement, given the faithful recreation of Urasawa’s distinct art style.

Twitter user “@jack_anim” and animator “@chicoamariyo” had collaborated to create the fan animation, and as of writing it has garnered over 2.6 million views on the platform, and 38k views on YouTube.

The viral animation didn’t go unnoticed by author of 20th Century Boys, Naoki Urasawa, who took to Twitter to acknowledge the creators and express his appreciation for the effort.

Thank you for your great Job!,” Urasawa tweeted.

20th Century Boys is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Naoki Urasawa. It was originally serialized in Shogakukan’s seinen manga magazine Big Comic Spirits from 1999 to 2006, with the 249 chapters published into 22 tankōbon volumes.

A 16 chapter continuation, titled 21st Century Boys, ran in the same magazine from 2006 to 2007 and was gathered into two tankobon volumes.

A trilogy of live-action film adaptations, directed by Yukihiko Tsutsumi, were released in 2008 and 2009.
