Sukuna’s fingers are the cornerstone of Jujutsu Kaisen, each one holding a fraction of the King of Curses’ immense power.
Over the course of the series, the consumption of these fingers by Yuji Itadori has been a pivotal plot point, driving the story forward and also being a cause of havoc and destruction.
However, confusion arises when it comes to the status of Sukuna’s fingers, especially the last one.
In Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 266, this confusion only increases with the reveal of what appeared to be one of Sukuna’s final fingers bound in an unknown location.
To clarify this mystery, let’s examine what happened to Sukuna’s last finger and where it might be now.
What Happened to Sukuna’s Last Finger?
Before delving into the mystery of the last finger, it’s essential to understand the current status of Sukuna’s other fingers. Yuji Itadori has consumed a total of 15 fingers throughout the series:
- First Finger: Itadori consumed this finger in Chapter 1 when he inadvertently swallowed it, marking the beginning of his connection with Sukuna.
- Second Finger: Given to Itadori by Gojo Satoru, this finger was consumed shortly after the first.
- Third Finger: Consumed by Sukuna himself during the Juvenile Detention Center incident.
- Fourth Finger: Consumed during the Origin of Obedience arc when Megumi Fushiguro handed the finger to Itadori. Sukuna’s mouth on Itadori’s hand ingested it.
- Fifth to Fifteenth Fingers: During the Shibuya Incident, 10 fingers were force-fed to Itadori in quick succession. Just before this, Mimiko and Nanako fed Itadori another finger, bringing the total to 15 fingers.
Now, during Sukuna’s transfer from Itadori to Megumi, Sukuna converted Itadori’s pinky finger into a cursed object, allowing him to switch vessels.
This brings us to the current state, where Sukuna, in possession of Megumi’s body, consumed three more fingers delivered by Uraume just before his battle with Gojo. This brings the total to eighteen fingers.
This leaves two fingers unaccounted for: one finger Gojo had supposedly hidden and another revealed to be sealed inside Itadori, as hinted at in Chapter 257. This led to assumptions that Yuji himself was Sukuna’s last finger.

However, Yuta was said to have consumed the final Sukuna’s finger. This begs the question—what is the significance of the one seen in Chapter 266?
What is the significance of Sukuna’s Finger in JJK 266?
The answer to this question is closely tied to Itadori’s missing fingers, that were also revealed in the same chapter.

To answer in short, Yuta Okkotsu consumed Itadori’s ring finger to gain the ability to use Cleave technique instead of Sukuna’s last finger hidden away by Gojo.
In chapter 250, we see Yuta use Cleave on Sukuna, which naturally led many to believe that he had consumed the last finger.
Here’s the catch though, Yuta never mentioned explicitly that he ate Sukuna’s final finger, instead it was suggested by Sukuna himself.

And in Chapter 267, we finally learn the whole story.
Yuta initially insisted on eating Sukuna’s last finger. However, Gojo didn’t allow it, choosing instead to gamble on Nobara waking up.
Instead, he suggested that Yuta consume Yuji’s finger to acquire the Shrine technique. Gojo had confirmed with his Six Eyes that the Shrine was etched onto Yuji, and Yuta could copy it by eating Itadori’s fingers, as long as he didn’t heal it back with RCT.
As opposed to my earlier assumption, Gojo’s confirmation meant that there was no risk involved here.
The finger also gave a perfect set-up for Nobara to return and do some lasting damage on Sukuna. Gojo’s gamble eventually worked out. The connection to Sukuna via his fingers was pretty crucial in this scenario.
