Crunchyroll and Sony brought Solo Leveling—ReAwakening, one of the most hyped anime movies of 2024, to Indian theatres on Dec 4, 2024.

The movie recaps Sung Jinwoo’s entire journey from season 1 and also includes the first two episodes of the upcoming season 2.

It is directed by Shunsuke Nakashige, with animation by A-1 Pictures and Production I.G., worked on the motion graphics.

Solo Leveling- ReAwakening takes us on a ride by going through the important events of Jinwoo’s life from season 1.

The movie hastens through the “ReAwakening” of Jinwoo in the double dungeon and how he achieves the system, his battle with other raiders and killing them.

The one thing the movie explores well is Jinwoo’s mindset after killing humans for the first time in his life and the lingering feeling of guilt.

The rehash ends with Jinwoo achieving the title of Shadow Monarch and acquiring one of his most formidable foes, Igris, as a shadow knight.

The movie’s second part consists of the first two episodes from the upcoming second season with a completely fashionable makeover of Jinwoo causing his sisters’ friends to swoon over him.

It progresses in a direction where Jinwoo has to convince his sister’s friend, Han Song-Yi, not to become a hunter.

To showcase how the world of hunting is based on the survival of the fittest and how it has no room for empathy towards anyone, Jinwoo accompanies Han into a C-rank gate which accidentally turns into a Red Gate.

They are accompanied by White Tiger guilds’ A rank member Kim and other B and C rank hunters into the Red Gate.

Horror ensues inside the Red Gate as Ice elves attack the party, separating them into two groups. Kim, arrogant about his strength, is obliterated by the Ice Elves and blames Jinwoo for his failure.

The following battle between Jinwoo and the leader of the Ice Elves is a spectacle to watch on a big screen.

Amidst all the fast-paced and high-energy battles the movie creates situational humor. The movie is a treat to watch for those familiar with the world of Solo Leveling.

However, for the uninitiated, the rehash is barely sufficient to catch up to the world-building of Solo Leveling.

It also doesn’t do enough justice as to why Jinwoo is scared of the God of the double dungeon and why killing humans bothers him even though he has no qualms about killing other humanoid creatures.

Jinwoo still carries the guilt of killing humans from season 1 into season 2 yet kills another human during the movie.

The ReAwakening movie hints at the dilemma of Jinwoo at the end of its runtime and it stays with you as an audience. Making you question Jinwoo’s shaky morals.

Even with questionable morals, Jinwoo’s character still craves more power and is ready to go to any length to achieve it.

If you are aware of the world of Solo Leveling you are going to enjoy this movie thoroughly, especially the high adrenaline-infused battles. However, if you are a newbie watch the movie to get a crash course on the world which you can explore in depth once you are back home.
