An official notice released by Redice Studio revealed that Solo Leveling illustrator Jang Seong-rak, commonly known as Dubu, passed away on July 23, 2022.
According to Redice, the illustrator had a sudden deterioration of health. Seong-rak usually suffered from chronic diseases and the cause of death was attributed to cerebral hemorrhage caused due to this.
A private funeral was held for the illustrator with only family members and acquaintances in attendance.
The studio thanked the readers of Solo Leveling for all their support. The entire staff and production crew of Redice studio, for which Seong-rak served as a CEO, sent their condolences.
Solo Leveling in the only major webtoon that Seong-rak has been associated with. The webtoon had come to an end after publishing 179 chapters on Dec 29, 2021.
The webtoon, which is an adaptation of the web-novel of the same name by Chugong, originally started on KakaoPage in Korea and has 2 seasons.
Yen Press licensed the webtoon and published a volume in paperback format earlier this year.
An anime adaptation by A-1 Studios had also been announced. The anime will release sometime in 2023 and will be streamed by Crunchyroll.
