Japan once again surprised everyone and came out winners in their World Cup Group Stage clash against Spain. The match played out in a similar fashion to that against Germany, with Japan coming from behind to topple their mighty opponents. The win helped them secure a place in the round of 16.
Though the fixture was not bereft of controversy, the samurai in blue aptly justified their giant-killers title at World Cup 2022.
Following their win, the authors of My Hero Academia, Blue Lock and Aoashi manga revealed illustrations congratulating the team and wishing them luck in the round of 16.
Kohei Horikoshi, author of My Hero Academia, drew an illustration featuring the character All Might from his manga. The message on the illustration reads “You did it. We did it!”
Blue Lock manga illustrator Yusuke Nomura drew an illustration featuring Yoichi Isagi congratulating the team on advancing to the next round.
Nomura had collaborated with the Japanese Football Team previously to release an illustration of the jersey which they are donning at the World Cup 2022. He also revealed a special illustration when Japan defeated Germany in their first match.
Aoashi author Yugo Kobayashi also drew an illustration featuring his protagonist Ao Ashito. When Kobayashi saw Japan beat Germany, he called it the Miracle of Doha. However, seeing them win again against a tougher opponent, the author knew it was no miracle.
“A week ago, when I saw Japan beat Germany in Qatar, I called it the ‘Miracle of Doha’. Today I take that back. It takes a strong team to be able to do what they need to do even when the pressure is on, even when they ware being criticized. It’s no miracle,” the author’s message on the illustration read.
Japan will face Croatia in the round of 16 next week.
