The past few chapters of Kagurabachi have been a ride. Takeru Hokazono has served us one twist after the another. Samura’s defection, Uruha’s demise, and now, Chihiro’s fate is up in the air too as of Kagurabachi chapter 59.
I mean, Chihiro is the main character, so it goes without saying that he will come out of this situation.
But then, what is concerning is the “confirmed dead” status we got in the latest chapter. What does it mean? And is Chihiro really dead?
Did Samura kill Chihiro in Kagurabachi chapter 59?
Well, to answer in short, Chihiro is not actually dead. Samura only injured him to the point where he could no longer fight or interfere.
To be honest, Samura never intended to kill Chihiro. This is clear from both his words and actions throughout the chapter.
It’s evident from the story that Samura, like the other sword bearers (excluding the Shinuchi’s owner), held Kunishige in high regard. Even though the blind swordsman went rogue, it’s unlikely he would ever put Chihiro in real danger.
After slashing him in a manner similar to Uruha, Samura remarked that Chihiro didn’t need to do anything further, assuring him that he would handle the rest. Notably, Samura didn’t stab Chihiro a second time as he did with Uruha.

This suggests that Samura’s only intent was to incapacitate Chihiro and ensure he stayed out of the escalating conflict. With Tobimune in his possession, Samura is confident in his ability to manage the situation alone and doesn’t want any interference.
In fact, Chihiro’s fate wouldn’t have been any different even if Shiba hadn’t arrived in the nick of time. The only variation would have been that Samura would have ended up possessing Enten instead.
But this raises the question—why was there a confirmed message in the chapter stating that both Chihiro and Uruha were dead?

It’s unclear whether Samura is aware that Chihiro is still alive. Seeing how he did not go for the kill and just left, it seems that he is aware Chihiro is alive.
However, the confirmation of Chihiro’s death mainly seems to be Shiba’s doing.
The likely reason for this false message was to ensure that the Hishaku would stop pursuing Chihiro to retrieve the seventh enchanted blade.
There’s also the possibility that the Kamunabi are involved in this scheme. If that’s the case, what will happen to the Enten?
What next?
Since the Hishaku believe Chihiro is dead, they are likely to shift their focus toward obtaining the Enten as soon as possible. A part of me suspects that both Samura and Shiba might be colluding, at least to ensure Chihiro’s safety.
Additionally, the Kamunabi have taken proactive measures to relocate the other sword bearers from their fortresses. However, it’s uncertain whether this makes them any less vulnerable.
From what we witnessed in Kagurabachi Chapter 59, it seems nearly impossible to escape Samura’s gaze. Once the Hishaku provide him with the information he seeks, he could very well start hunting them down within a week.
The pressing question, though, is how the Kamunabi, particularly Shiba, will handle the unfolding situation.
To be frank, the war heroes are sitting on a massive and dirty secret. If the Hishaku decide to expose this, it could tear the entire country apart.
For the Kamunabi, who are a government-affiliated organization, their priority would likely be to prevent this Pandora’s box from being opened at any cost.
Their hands are essentially tied in this matter, as they will want to maintain order and protect their position.
Shiba, on the other hand, faces a significant dilemma. Beyond just saving Chihiro, he must decide his path. Will he side with Samura and take the rough, thorny route, or will he prioritize saving the lives of others?
Depending on the severity of the secret, the lines between right and wrong are about to become blurred, and the moral compass is going to be altered.
That being said, it seems unlikely that Shiba will resort to sealing away the Enten, as the Hishaku did with Kumeyuri.
For now, it seems that Chihiro will be recuperating and may remain out of the narrative for a while, allowing other characters to take center stage for at least the next few chapters.
Well, that’s just my opinion though!
