A fan-made project aiming to rewrite the ending of Jujutsu Kaisen manga, titled Jujutsu No Kaisen, has ignited a firestorm of controversy.
Fans criticized the group behind it for seeking sponsors and raising ethical concerns about their methods.
The project, spearheaded by an X account named Jujutsunokaisen, aimed to rewrite the ending of Jujutsu Kaisen starting from Chapter 236. The group claims that the original ending by Gege Akutami left many fans dissatisfied and promises to deliver a more satisfying conclusion.
“The Jujutsu Kaisen manga has ended, and as many know, the ending did not satisfy everyone. There were many exciting events that could have formed a wonderful ending. I wonder why the original writer Gege didn’t focus on it, with all due respect to him. So my group and I decided to change the ending and make it satisfy everyone. We will focus on accurate drawing, interesting events, and ideal scenarios while giving the characters their full rights,” the group stated on their website
The first chapter of the alternate ending has already been published, with the group promising more updates soon.
However, in a post on X, the group acknowledged the lack of financial support for their project.
“The reason for our delay is the lack of any sponsors for this project, meaning we are working without any financial support. However, despite all this, I will do my utmost to create an amazing fan work for you.”
This plea for sponsors has been met with sharp criticism from fans, who stated that a fan-made project should not seek financial backing, especially one that uses traced artwork and AI-generated content.
Many argued that this move is inappropriate for an endeavor based on someone else’s intellectual property.
Responses ranged from outright rejection to legal concerns, with some calling for action from Shueisha, the publisher of Jujutsu Kaisen.
Fans have accused the group of lacking creativity and disrespecting the source material, with some even calling for the project to be shut down entirely.
In the past, Studio Eclypse, a group of animators, gained significant attention for their Berserk fan animation project.
It received widespread support from fans, with many contributing money through the studio’s Patreon account.
The studio, however, had faced criticism for its track record of not delivering on promises.
The project was eventually shut down after the studio received a warning from the manga’s publisher. Studio Eclypse unpublished their Patreon page without issuing refunds to supporters and locked their Twitter account.

To commemorate the manga’s conclusion, several fellow manga creators expressed their gratitude and admiration for Gege Akutami’s work through their comments.
Jujutsu Kaisen manga was serialized in Shueisha’s shonen manga magazine Weekly Shonen Jump from March 2018 to September 2024, with its chapters collected in 30 tankobon volumes.
By September 2024, the manga had over 100 million copies in circulation, including related novels, digital versions, and Jujutsu Kaisen 0.
